they actually don't know. L.J. Smith didn't write the reason why they are so alike. Katherine 発言しました that they must be somehow related but nothing more. and Damon and Stefan don't even notice that anymore because Elena is different as a person

see i watched the 表示する last thursday elena is katherine
@Kadelly Elena is not Katherine and vice versa! Now @Krvopija Yes, Your right. The 本 never fully explain in details why Elena and Katherine Look alike. In the show, they do explain Why they look alike. And also Stefan and Damon see Elena {in the book} as herself.
me neither i believe that she may be related to he but shes not and in the book i havent heard anything.. but in the 表示する she is realy adopted .. plz can someone explain cuz.. i dont get it..
Katherine kills Elena {but actually turns her into a vampire} And Once Elena is a vampire....{Don't want to give so many details- just to be safe- I don't want to be a spoiler for the ppl who havent read the books} Elena ends up killing Katherine. In the show, it has been explained why they both look alike!
Also, I think in the books, since it's never truly explained why they both look alike, it's suposed to be left like that... As a mystery. I mean I doubt Elena is adopted in the 本 since she looks like her little sister, they both have blond hair and blue eyes. I'll leave it as it is for now, a mystery.
katherine and elena look alike because they are relitives but usually when people look the same (on the show)1 is generally immortal and is sent to destroy the other person that they look like
In 1490, Katerina gave birth to a daughter, who gave birth to a daughter; Isobel, who gave birth to Elena. Katherine is Elena's Great Grandmother, so her looks passed down, but skipped her grandmother and mother.

The way あなた say it sounds confusing... from what I read, あなた say that Katerina (Katherine) gave birth to Isobel and that's not true. She did give birth to a baby girl but Isobel was born like 500 years later. Katherine is Elena's great-ggreat-great (repeat like 100000 times) grandmother
