Chapter 8

Booth and Brennan walked into the room and sat down. They had tried to be there first so that they wouldn’t be noticed too much, but, again, they failed miserably. They were both practically quiet until the door swung open and a young, happy voice said,
“Hey peoples, how’s life?”
Booth and Brennan guessed it was Genevieve. They were right. Nighter of them turned around because before she finished her 質問 she was over in the キッチン serving up her dinner. They had a clear view of her from where they were sitting. She was skinny and pretty with blond hair pulled into a ポニー tail that went half way down her back.
“Good Honey.” 発言しました Laura.
She sat down at the table. Sam made a coughing sound to let on that someone new was there. She looked up and noticed Booth and Brennan for the first time.
“Oh, Hi. I’m Genevieve.” She gave a welcoming smile.
Brennan and Booth smiled. They liked her already. She appeared to be the fun, happy and nice sort.
“Gen, this is Agent Booth and Dr. Brennan. They’re here about the body.” He finished the last sentence quietly.
Brennan was about to say something, Booth figured it’d be something to do with dead bodies and a lecture about decomposing so he stopped her quickly.
“Oww.”Brennan 発言しました as he delivered a sharp elbow to the ribs. He also interrupted her.
“So, あなた ride?” he asked her.
“None stop.” Laura teased.
“Yep.” She answered, ignoring her mum’s joke.
“He can ride good too Gen.” 発言しました Tony excitedly.
“Ahh, I’m okay.” 発言しました Booth.
“You’re もっと見る than okay! That Jump was up to my chest! That’s really high.” Tony answered.
“Yeah.” Brennan agreed.
“He can’t ride, he’s stupid.” Muttered Jay. No one heard it but Brennan who glared at him.
“That’s good, I’ll take あなた up the mountain soon.”Gen 発言しました with a smile.
“Okay.” Booth 発言しました still trying to make conversation so BONES（ボーンズ）-骨は語る- wouldn’t say something smart.
Eventually, Booth gave Brennan back the gift of speech. She didn’t say anything too smart, because she knew she’d be elbowed again.
After tea, they helped with the dishes again, just to be polite, and then started the walk back to their cabins through the icy cold night air.
“Booth?” Brennan asked shyly.
“Yeah.” He answered, he turned his head towards her. She could see his breath, it was so darn cold.
“What would happen if the FBI decided we don’t work well together and スプリット, 分割 us up? It’s not like it’s going to happen, but, what if it did? I mean, would we still see each other?” Her voice was quiet and serious, but mostly sad. That’s what mostly caught Booth’s attention. The 質問 had surprised him. He’d never considered that.
“Well,” he went quiet for a minute, then said, “I don’t know.” his voice was riddled in disappointment.
“We would still see each other, Right?” She looked him in the eyes. He looked straight back and said
“Yeah, diffidently.” he smiled warmly. Brennan felt a sudden surge of heat flow through her and she was now hot. によって now they were at the cabins.
“Night Bones.” Then he turned to walk away, but stopped about 10 yards away and said,
“Yeah, errr, don’t ask that 質問 in front of Sweets, he’ll go all physiological on us, okay?”
“No argument there.”
“ That’s a change.” Booth gave her a cheesy grin.
She gave him a sideways ‘Whatever’ look and turned to unlock the door to her cabin.





Chapter 9
Brennan got up earlier than usual, this early bird stuff was growing on her. Her キャビン was rather warm because she had left her heater on all night, as instructed によって Genevieve. It wasn’t too cold to wear a singlet, so she threw one on over her black and red bra. It was a thin white shirt, so it was pretty much see-through, but no one was there so she could do what she liked. She was also wearing shorts that went halfway down her thighs. Besides, she’d get change before she went out.
She casually walked into the kitchen, opened the fridge and grabbed the milk. As she closed the fridge she took a gulp and nearly chocked at the same time as she having a stroke. There, sitting on the ソファー, ソファ was Booth with a trying not to smile look on his face, while also trying not to fall off the chair laughing.
Brennan quickly grabbed the newspaper she’d left on the side and held it to her chest.
“What are あなた doing in here!?” she yelled.
“I came to tell あなた something.” He had control of his laughter but was still trying not to smile.
“Why couldn’t あなた wait outside?” She was annoyed, but not that much anymore.
“Umm, well,” the smile was gone off his face now and he had stopped laughing, “Sam’s aunty died of a ハート, 心 attack in the night and the entire family and カケス, ジェイ and Tony went to the funeral in California. So, were alone for a few days.”
“Well, how do あなた know that?”
“It was hard not to see the note Genevieve Stuck to my door with a pocket knife.”
“Oh, so, what do we do? Keep working on the case?”
A fun evil smile lit up his face, “That’s the thing. We can’t really work because, technically, I don’t know the way to, well, anywhere. So, I think we should do nothing!”
“Well, we can’t really do nothing because no matter what we do we’re doing something, for example, sleeping is doing something because you’re sleeping, and...”
“Yeah, Bones, figure of speech.” Booth interrupted bluntly.
“I was just stating a factual observation.”
“You know what, why don’t あなた go put something on, okay? I’ll go make breakfast.”
Brennan suddenly remembered what she was wearing. Still holding the newspaper, she walked back to her room.
Booth walked outside and towards the house where he found a note from Laura saying that they were sorry for their sudden leaving and to help themselves to anything and not to get killed によって a horse.
He was serving up eggs and bacon, when Brennan walked in.
“Smells good.” She said.
“I hope so.” was his reply.
“So what do we do today?” she took a mouthful of food.

He thought for a second, then said, “Whatever happens that’s
interesting.”
“That doesn’t make sense.”
“How about I teach あなた to ride properly?” he teased. She didn’t get the joke.
“I know how to ride.” She 発言しました defensively.
“It was a joke, Bones. But now あなた mention it, there are a few things あなた don’t know.”
She gave him a fake annoyed face, “Like what?”
“You’ll have to wait and see.”
Brennan plunked back in her chair like a pouting child. Booth’s only
response was a smile that made her insides sizzle. She quickly looked away. Booth got up and said,
“I’ll meet あなた in the barn.” Then he left the room, leaving Brennan alone to do what she wanted.





Chapter 10

Brennan walked into the 納屋 to find Booth sitting in front of the door to Starlings stall and fiddling with a piece of straw in his hands. ムクドリ, スターリング hung his head over the gate and watched with interest. Brennan came and sat down beside him.
“Hey Bones.”
“Hi. Why do あなた think they took off so suddenly? If the aunt is already dead, then, why the rush?”
Booth sighed. Was she ever going to get it?
“Look Bones, someone they loved died. It’s normal to want to be there as soon as possible.” He’d explained this thousands of times, but she still didn’t get it.
“But, she’s already dead. When they get there won’t make a difference.”
Booth gave up. He rested his head on the stall door. At that instant, ムクドリ, スターリング started chewing his hair playfully.
“Hey!” Booth quickly pulled away, “What are あなた doing?” he rubbed the 馬 nose.
“He really likes you.” Brennan said.
“I guess.”
They looked each other in the eyes for a moment. Brennan felt a warmth flow through her. So did he. Their trance was broken when ムクドリ, スターリング suddenly started going nuts. He paced in his stall and kicked the walls. Booth jumped to his feet and ran in.
“Shhhh, boy, what’s wrong?” he grabbed the ホルター around Starlings head before he could rear. Instantly the horse calmed down, but he kept his eyes on the open door of the barn. Now it was quiet, they could both hear a small click outside the barn.
Booth quickly pulled out his gun and prepared it to fire. Brennan knew not to say a word, but to keep quiet and stay behind Booth. They walked quietly out into the yard. Right outside the 納屋 door were footprints.
“Booth, I didn’t make those.” Brennan said.
“That’s not the worst bit. Whoever did has a gun.” He kept his eyes up but nodded towards the ground where a few old bullets lay.
“What do we do?”
“You are going to lock yourself in the main house over there and stay put.”
“No!”
“Yes!” he stared her in the eyes, “You are unarmed and I’m not going to put あなた at risk.”
Then he turned away. Before she could ディベート she was being tugged quickly to the house. They got there safely and Booth quickly knelt down and pulled a 秒 gun from his leg. He gave it to Brennan and said, “Don’t kill yourself.” before leaving to find the third person.
Brennan shut and locked the door.
“It’s a privilege to meet あなた doctor Brennan.”
She quickly spun around. The shock made her drop the gun.
In the shadows of the room stood a man dressed in black. All the curtains were shut so she couldn’t see his face. But his voice was enough to warn her that what was coming wasn’t good.
“What’s wrong? Cat got your tongue?” 発言しました the man tauntingly.
“Who are you?” she 発言しました trying to keep the fear from her voice.
“The person you’re messing with.”
“I don’t know what あなた mean.”
“Oh, is that so?” his voice was calm, but had an evil to it. “Well now, I’m sure I can tell you.”
A sudden pressure hit her throat and pushed her against the wall. She couldn’t breathe.
“I murdered that girl and if I let あなた live you’ll just figure out who I am. So, as あなた guessed, I’m going to have to kill you.”
He suddenly smashed her into the wall. It felt like being hit in the head によって a ton of bricks. But she could breathe again, for a moment. Then she was grabbed again and hauled into the opposite wall.
“Well, you’re a sturdy one aren’t you.” this time the voice had a cruel smile to it. Brennan felt a warm liquid run down the side of her face. She tried to stand and find the gun, but only copped a kick to the head. She couldn’t see straight and it hurt to move.
“Now don’t worry. I promise not to hurt あなた too much. I can’t kill あなた here, so I’m taking あなた somewhere else.”
He was about to hit her when a gunshot rung out and the man cried out in pain. Then he disappeared. A 秒 later, Booth smashed down the door and ran over to her.
“Bones! Are あなた alright? What happened? Talk to me.”
He pulled her up off the ground and stood her up.
“I’m fine.” She’d caught her breath. Brennan pushed away from Booth and stood on her own feet. “Are あなた okay?”
“I’m not the one who was being kidnapped. You’re sure you’re okay? Because あなた don’t look it. Besides, I thought I told あなた not to get killed.”
“Certain. And I’m still alive, so where did he go?”
“I was hoping あなた knew. I shot at him and then came in here.”
“Your target was hit because he screamed.”
“Good. But it wasn’t enough to stop him.” He glared at the open window. “At least you’re okay.” He turned back to Brennan. She was against the ウォール looking at underneath the couch. Booth followed her gaze which led to a ナイフ lying on the ground. Brennan took an evidence bag from her pocket and picked it up.
“Booth this is the exact weapon used to kill that girl.”
“I thought あなた 発言しました it was a suicide.”
“It looked like it, but that man told me he killed her. That’s why he was here.”
“Hang on, I’m confused. What?”
“The body of the girl was found in the barn. Forensics 発言しました that was the murder scene. But it wasn’t. The girl was killed here and taken there. He must have ロスト his ナイフ then and come back to get it when everyone was away. He didn’t count on running into us though.”
“The forensics team don’t make mistakes like that though.”
“They didn’t make a mistake, they were tricked. This guy is a mastermind. He moved the crime scene and gave us a fake foundation to the case so we’d think we’re getting closer, when we’re actually getting further away. He knows everything.”
“You’re too good to make a mistake like that, so how did he make it look like a suicide?” Booth was getting the story now.
“I’m guessing he held the ナイフ in the girls hand while stabbing her, therefore producing a murder that looks like a suicide.”
“You know, for some one that just nearly got killed, that was ingenious.” He was pleased. It meant the case was over.
“Thank you.” Brennan had a satisfied smile on her face. “I’ll call Cam and the others and tell them about what we found.
“I’ll fix the door.” Booth 発言しました as he smiled guiltily. Brennan smiled, shook her head and took a step outside. What if that guy was waiting for her again? She turned around, Booth was watching her.
“Umm,” she began.
“Do あなた want me to come?”
She nodded. “Only because I need your help to set up the laptop.” She knew it was a pathetic excuse, and she hoped Booth wouldn’t pick up on it. Brennan knew how to set up the lap top. Secretly, she just wanted him there to keep her safe. But she wouldn’t admit it.
Booth smiled and followed her out.




Chapter 11

Back at the lab, Cam, Hodgins and Zac sat on the couches waiting for Angela to arrive.
“I wonder what she wants?” Zac asked.
“Well it had better be good, this is my lunch hour.” Cam 発言しました bluntly.
“It’s always something with Angela.” Hodgins said.
“That’s what I’m afraid of.” Cam replied.
“I hope it’s done soon. I want to eat.” Zac 発言しました looking at his stomach.
“You bring Macaroni every day, it’s not like you’re missing out.” Hodgins said.
Zac was about to say something when Angela walked up holding a lap top.
“Hey, sorry I’m late, Brennan was meant to call but didn’t so, anyway, I have a bet to make.” A cunning smile came across her face.
“Oh, I’m not doing one of your bets.” 発言しました Cam as she stood and walked away.
“I’m in.” Hodgins said. They both looked at Zac.
“Err, I’m with Dr. Saroyan.” He stood slowly and backed away as he 発言しました it. Then quickly turned and sped after her.
“So, what’s this bet? Is it to do with Booth and Brennan?” Hodgins said.
Her smile widened as she nodded. She told him as she set up her web cam ready to talk to Brennan.
