Soul and Maka are my faves. I just 愛 their relationship its a mix of friendship and partnership. I 愛 how even though they argue....A LOT, how they stick together and have eachothers backs no matter what. I also 愛 how they'll risk their own lives for one another and also their teammates: Black 星, つ星 and Tsubaki, and Kid, Liz, and Patty. Maka and Soul are without a doubt the best ヒーローズ ever......in my mind
My two お気に入り are actually Vash the Stampede (Trigun) and Lelouch vi Britannia (Code Geass; Anti-hero または not he was still the protagonist) but I will go with Lucy / Nyū / Kaede from Elfen Lied here.
His character development is pretty much the best I have witnessed during my time as an アニメ fan. I also 愛 the way that, in how his actions are executed throughout the series, his character had me reflecting on the true nature of humanity and the state of our world, mainly in a metaphorical sense. This is why I have come to 愛 アニメ anti-heroes. "Altruism" is an attribute hidden behind the metaphorical mask of his character, but granted, he truly did care about people and his sacrifice to bring about peace was beyond selfless.

NARUTO -ナルト- Uzumaki. <3 I 愛 his determination to go after his dream and how he's able to prove the people who doubted him wrong. That, and even when things get hard, he still keeps smiling. And I 愛 watching how far he's come. He's my お気に入り アニメ character in general. I just adore him.

Now I have to say I can see there are those who basically can't stand him
Uh....that's nice for you. Yeah, he can be dense sometimes, but he's proven himself to be really clever at times, especially in combat. In my opinion, yeah, he can be a little dumb at times, but he's not as dumb as most people say. At least, to me.
At first, I immediately thought "EDWARD ELRIC", but now that I think about it, I think Monkey D. Luffy. He's amazing and he taught me a lot of things that made me a better person/friend, if that makes sense. No? Otaii. But for real doh MONKEY D. LUFFY!
