I'd rather say she's over-acting than childish, but perhaps Disney made her so to be funny. Rapunzel is not childish at all. She's smart and cunning and very diplomatic. She's like making a political speech to the thugs in "I've Got a Dream" scene. She can persuade Maximus not to catch Flynn for her own benefit: seeing the lanterns. She's more like a teenager being sweet on her crush when she tidies up her hair listening to Flynn's childhood story.

In the beginning she was childish but by the end of the film she grows up.

Well, she experience the world like a child in that she discovers it for the first time in her live - but that doesn't equal being childish. If I had to point out the most childish princesses, it would be Ariel and Jasmine for sure. Rapunzel is just a little bit naive, but not the way Snow White is, whose naivity steams from her innocence and thus will always be part of her character as long as she doesn't loose this innocence. Rapunzel simply lacks certain experiences, her naivite isn't a character trait of her and is more a matter of having trouble to gauge a situation properly than really believing everything people tell her. (She doesn't allow Flynn to sweettalk her, either).

Rapunzel is not childish, she was a victim of oppression and emotional manipulation for her entire life and even despite spending 18 years in isolation and never interacting with anyone other than Gothel she still manages to be civil and make an actual deal with Flynn to persue her dream/goal to see the lanterns, she also handles herself with grace in the oub despite facing so many people at once for the first time in her life, she behaves very much like an adult during each and every of her interactions with anyone. She obviously has unbalanced and often even hysterical reactions to everything that is going on around her when facing the world for the first time, but it's completely understandable. Even her psychological condition doesn't get in a way of her being able to find a common ground with pretty much everyone she meets and she is able to explain to other people and even a hourse what she wants and why - an ability that even some of adults completely lack and all of it despite the years she spent isolated from the outside world and not interacting with anyone besides Gothel.

Being child-like is different then being being childish. Childish is immaturity. Child-like is seeing the world like a child, expressing oneself like a child with true emotion, and believing the way a child would - faith like a child. I think Rapunzel fits being child-like. She balances it well. She is still mature, cunning, and resourceful. Being child-like is not a bad thing as an adult if one can have it balanced in the nature.

No, i'd say kid-at-heart. When people say childish they usually mean little kids who cry all the time, or being stubborn in a horrible way. Childlike to me is a posh way of saying childish so I would never use it. Rapunzel is a kid-at-heart. I know I chose childish but to some people kid-at-heart and childish i the same difference. Rapunzel expresses herself with imagination, does what she wants, and...to be honest I think she's basically many of us. Kid-at-heart. And there's nothing wrong with that.

I haven't seen the movie in awhile but I remember just thinking she is fun loving and bubbly not really childish. Again I have to see the movie again. I love her either way.
