fahmad27 I agree with aurorazaurelia. THe earlier princesses were not weak. They are just reserved and calm compared to the later princesses.

The older princesses being judged by the modern standards of female liberation and society perceptions/concepts of strength and significance is a terribly inaccurate and unwise perspective of looking at and reviewing them, their characters and personalities. Older princesses were not weak because an ability (or inability) to physically defeat someone (an enemy/villian in the most cases) does not define personality strength nor is said ability/tendency to physical violence an obligation or requirement for a fictional character of ANY gender to possess and neither is a business/goal oriented attitude. Character strength is defined by endurance, ability to remain true to yourself even in the hopeless and hardest of situations without turning into a bitter or vengeful person despite mistreatment or abuse like Cinderella and Snow White or acknowledgement of responsibility regardless of your personal wishes and desires as done by Aurora when she was informed that basically her entire life was a lie even if it was on her behalf and that she cannot see Phillip anymore because she is destined and is obligated to marry a prince and back when she had no idea about Phillip being that prince she still didn't neglect her princess duties or put her feelings above them despite being a 16 year old teenager whose essential instinct is selfishness and longing for freedom/independence and agreed to travel to the castle embracing the life she knew nothing about and ready to meet her parents she didn't even know she had. Yes, maybe those princesses did not save China or defeat their villians physically but they were by no means "weak" characters.

auroraxaurelia ^But she is considered a princess in the Disney Princess franchise. That is why she is in the Disney Princess Line-up. Regardless of whether she was one or not.

Mongoose09  really am sick of this perception people seem to have that just because a female character is not a Merida or a Mulan or a Katniss Everdeen (while all are great, strong characters) they are automatically cast aside and branded as "weak". These people think they're helping feminism when in fact they are doing the complete opposite. I can't really speak for Aurora (no offence to her fans) but just because Cinderella & Snow White aren't 'badass' by definition, it does not mean they are weak characters. Emotionally-speaking, Cinderella is by far the strongest Princess IMO. If you can only see 'strong' female characters by the amount of physical strength they use, then that's entirely your problem.

AudreyFreak Katniss isnt great or strong, she's the lame Mary Sue feminist heroine society likes, as unrealistic and unlikable as she is. she's exactly the kind of character the old princesses are being compared to.
