It is my firm belief that none of the princesses are "damsels in distress."

Mulan and Pocahontas aren't damsels in distress at all. Jasmine it kind of depends if you count sequels and the TV series, which she's most certainly is not a damsel in distress, but in just the original she really is kind of a damsel. Belle and Merida are pretty big damsels in distress. Merida constantly has to be saved by her mother and three little brothers. She's suppose to be this total bada** but we're just shown how she's incapable of taking care of herself. I mean it seems like every thirty seconds Merida has to be saved by her mom. Some say that when a bada** chick gets a love interest she loses her bada**ness but in this case it's her mother her makes her lose hers. Belle also is pretty much a damsel. She gets attacked by wolves, has to be saved by Beast, gets captured and locked up, and has to be saved by Chip. A five year old tea cup! Come one! A five year old that's basically just a head? What's that's more useful and heroic than you, you know you're in trouble. Even in the sequel, which I prefer as a movie and Belle's personality over the original, she's a damsel too and it's kind of pathetic too. She tries to save Chip from drowning and she just falls in. After they're saved she gets into distress just ten seconds later. Sure during the climax she's more useful than she was in the original she's still quite the damsel.

Also since when is Ariel, Tiana, and Rapunzel thought of as damsels in distress?

^I forgot Tiana, but I lot of articles I read on other website has Rapunzel and Ariel as DiDs.

Than clearly the people who think that need to look up damsel in distress in the dictionary. Besides I've never meet anyone who thought they were damsels in distress, except BelleAnastasia with Ariel but she doesn't count (jk).

Aladdin has to save her at least twice.

Jasmine is the biggest DiD of the princesses (ironically.) What does she actually do for herself in the movie that she doesn't need someone else to clean up the mess from?

Yeah, I like Jasmine A LOT , but she is the biggest one out of the bunch. She did not save anyone, had to be saved by Aladdin a few times, and her flaws and mistakes are looked over. She got herself out of the palace, and at least ATTEMPTED to be of use. I am pretty sure if anyone was in those situations when your hand is about to be cut off and drowning in sand, you would be begging for help. At least she knows her worth

Well, Ariel is a damsel in distress. Didn't she have to be saved by almost all the characters in her movie. You've just being biased again.
