alum will star in new drama by gay playwright Matthew Lopez.
Luke Macfarlane, best known as gay chef Scotty Wandell on the ABC series
will run February 19 through March 15, 2015, at Hartford Stage in Hartford, Conn., which previously staged Lopez\'s plays
. Macfarlane will play Jonathan, a gay man who has withdrawn from society.
, a personal tragedy has caused Jonathan to withdraw from the world, with little social life beyond the men he meets online," according to press notes about the production. "When charming, flighty Claire moves into the apartment upstairs, she tries to coax him out of his shell. They forge a tenuous connection, but the past reverberates into the present, threatening what happiness they\'ve found." The play also stars Aya Cash and Carl Lundstedt.
"It is Matthew\'s most haunting and imaginative play," said out Hartford Stage artistic director Darko Tresnjak in a previous statement. "It is also rather frank — about love and sexuality; gay, straight, and in between — in our time. At the end of the day, inspiration and faith in our audience won the day. And a competitive streak kicked in: I wanted Hartford Stage to get the credit for premiering this beautiful work."
Macfarlane, who came out publicly as gay in a 2008 interview, made his Broadway debut in the Tony Award-winning 2001 Broadway premiere of Larry Kramer\'s
and later starred in the national tour of the drama. His other theater credits include the off-Broadway productions of
