Chapter Thirteen: Eat Them Before They Eat You

      It was early the 次 morning when I woke up. The night before seemed like a dream to me. I expected to find myself in the school dorm または in a hotel because dad and I had to stop before we go continue the mission. Then I realized that I was actually stuck in headquarters with Darrell, Courtney, and Raven. Raven was up and walking to do. She still wouldn't talk but she was walking. Darrell was still sleeping along with Courtney. The realization of finding myself in this position made it increasingly hard to fall back to sleep.
      Raven was staring at one of the monitors with an intense glare. "What are あなた looking for?" 
      She shook her head in reply. It was useless trying to Raven to talk. It was obvious that she was way もっと見る into looking at monitors. What I don't understand is what made her like this? What had happened back at the school?
       "You know, あなた can tell me whatever?" I said. "You can explain to me what actually happened back at school. It might be helpful."
       "You say the simplest things and yet they aren't so simple." She pressed a few buttons on the keyboard and an image appeared. It was the entrance of the school. "I don't know why あなた want to know so much. If あなた want to know then あなた can watch this." She pressed the rewind button and the monitor showed the night we left. I could hear the バン speed away.
      Raven was alone outside with Charles によって her side. The camera couldn't pick up audio. It just shows a black and white screen. In a moment Charles was darting across the back of the yard. He ran to a group of guys huddled in a サークル, 円 around a fire. によって Charles stance, I could tell he was probably lecturing them about starting a 火災, 火 次 to a school filed with sleeping children was wrong. In an instance they grabbed him and threw him into the fire. They started picking at his bones, devouring his intestines and just like that he was nothing but a bunch of bones. Those men were cannibals.
      Raven was horrified as well. She let out a sharp gasp. The men turned their heads at her. They began their way across the yard. She didn't dare scream so instead she ran in the other direction. They were walking but they were still able to catch up to her. Raven almost got away but they caught her によって the leg. She was kicking and throwing punches but nothing seemed to distract them from eating her. They didn't even try to fight back. Oozing liquids came from their mouths onto her clothes. The liquid made her clothes dissolve into water. Now Raven was really freaking out but years of soy training kicked in. There was four of them and one of her. With one twist she was able to get one leg free from their grasp. With this one leg she was able to lift one of them and throw them a couple of feet away from her. The other leg was free now and this time she leaped from their hands to the air to the ground and darted to the woods. They didn't follow her though. There was still liquid on her. The liquid went into her skin in a blink of an eye. 
      "Why we're there cannibals によって our school?" I asked after a few 秒 of processing the video. Did this have something to do with my father's disappearance?
      "Cannibalism is not a 人気 thing in America and if someone was a cannibal they would go to jail または be put to the death sentence." She paused for a moment. "Normal humans don't spit yellow ooze from their mouths. These must be created."
      "Who would create cannibals? What could they possibly gain from creating cannibals?"
      "That is what worries me," Raven said. "They could literally control all of the world with their cannibal humanoids. This is related to your father's disappearance. I know it is. Do あなた think your father created those things?"
      "No!" I shouted. "Why would あなた even suggest that. My dad would never do something like that and plus my dad is a good guy. He is not some messed up wacko villain!"
      "Sorry, it was just an idea." Raven stared back at the monitor where the cannibals were now roaming the school's grounds. "Do あなた see this? The cannibals are becoming increasingly agitated. They haven't had nothing to eat in a while."
      "Fast フォワード, 前進, 楽しみにして it to right now."
      The cannibals were now destroying the property. The staff was trying to control the situation and they were trying to get the kids to exit the building but it was no use. The four cannibals were able to capture six kids while the staff wasn't looking. They cannibals were actually growing. I realized that when I saw them eat Charles. They grew about a few inches. When the cannibals were gone, Brookhaven Prep was in ruins. The glass was shattered, the walls were crumbling and some trees had fallen on the roof. 
      "We should have stayed and helped," 発言しました Raven. "We could have helped somehow."
      "How could we help? We wouldn't know about the cannibals if we had stayed. And we might have been killed if we had stayed," I said.
      "I don't know," she mumbled. "I just can't stand not helping."
      "I know how あなた can help," I said. I continued when I was sure I caught her attention. "You can help によって coming up with a way to get us out of here."
       "Well, If あなた had care to go through the back door that has the only window then あなた could escape through there. Am I the only one who noticed that door?" 
      "Apparently," I replied.
