The Bad #1: Matt

While nearly every other character has a decent subplot, Matt has gone the entire series without being remotely interesting. His relationship with Caroline was rather dull and as soon as it got interesting when she turned into a vampire, they broke up and Matt went back to being a glorified extra. Either find something to do with him or kill him.

The Bad #2: Too Many Magic Rings

I’m fine with Damon and Stefan having daywalker rings, but then Uncle Jonathan came with his magic invincibility ring and after Caroline was turned, Bonnie made a daywalker ring for her. If it’s that easy, why doesn’t every vampire have one?

The Bad #3: The Doppelganger Explanation

There have been references to the doppelganger, but it’s still very unclear why Elena looks like Katherine. Did the people who put the curse on the moonstone also make it so once every 500 years an ancestor of someone very old is born and becomes the new doppelganger? If Elena and Katherine are both Petrova doppelgangers, were there more before them? It’s not bad that these questions aren’t answered, it’s bad that no one seems to have any interest in them.

The Bad #4: Where Are Alaric and Jenna?

Alaric shows up to supply weapons, Jenna shows up to let vampires into her home, but other than that, these two have no real purpose or storyline. The show needs to seriously consider giving them a bigger role. Or really, any role.

The Bad #5: The Expendable Girls of Mystic Falls

Aimee and Sarah were just two high school girls who flirted with Tyler, Matt and Jeremy, yet within a matter of a few episodes, both were killed. Basically, the lesson was that all girls not in the main cast are perfectly expendable, which is disappointing because Aimee was actually starting to grow on me before Katherine killed her in public.

The Bad #6: Jeremy and Bonnie’s Love Lives

Jeremy’s girlfriend Anna died in the first season finale while Bonnie’s love life has consisted of a vampire, vampire food and a manipulative warlock. Jeremy and Bonnie had a chance to be together, but she shot him down. As such, these two have spent the entire year being unlucky in love, which can only go so far. Let them be happy for once.

The Bad #7: Is Witchcraft Racist?

Bonnie, Luka, Jonas, Lucy, Bree, Grams and Emily are the only major recurring African-American characters on the show, and they are all witches. Not only that, but they are the only witches we’ve seen. It’s not necessarily racist, but it’s a little off-putting that every black character is a witch.

The Bad #8: Too Many Events in Mystic Falls

Every day is a holiday in Mystic Falls. There’s either a dance or a carnival or a historical society gathering or a town clean-up or some other event for the townspeople to gather. Enough is enough! When does this town rest?

The Bad #9: An Early Death for Slater

If there’s one thing this show could’ve used, it’s a cool nerdy vampire who is a walking encyclopedia of vampire history. Instead, Slater was killed in his first episode, a tragic waste of a character with huge potential.

The Bad #10: Elena and Stefan’s Seesaw Relationship

I need to take off my shoes to count the number of times Elena and Stefan have broken up, gotten back together and broken up again. Whether it’s for real or for show, it seems like every single episode ends with their relationship status changing, which probably annoys the crap out of their Facebook friends. Let them be together or let them break up, but whatever you choose, let it stick, at least for more than two or three episodes.

I thought the EXACT same thing with Too Many Events In Mystic Falls.
I mean, for God's sake, I know they need to keep it new and interesting but seriously, how much can one town do? The most we get is the Prodesants (can't spell) marching through the streets once a year.

Also, I agree with Elena and Stefan, I mean, seriously, pick a status, already! It's getting just too confusing and bumpy... why can't they keep it, that they stay together and just FIGHT through everything together? Isn't that what everyone says? The best way to get through something is to do it with someone you love?

As for Slater, I AM SO disappointed! He was plain epic! The show needs someone like him, the Salvatores need him with the amount of trouble they get into... he should have been kept alive for a few episodes at least, but after Elijah explained he couldn't have a queue of vamps after Elena, I understand why he killed Slater, but he, Slater should have just banded up with the Salvatores like Rose did.

The rest of it, I can live with, to be honest.

I'd say not only girls, but almost every new character...

Stefan/Elena have broken up twice in the entire series. I don't get why people whine about this. Talk about grasping at straws to find something to whine about.
Anyhow, the racism bothers me so much. I try hard to not look at that aspect because the show is flawless otherwise, but it is really glaring.

they are actually the only aspect of the show that i don't like because they are not interesting or unexpected in any way. i rather see both of them be single than together

This is the one thing that bothers me. Both Anna and Lexi were killed off and sadly I keep thinking Rose will be killed off. I hate interesting female vamps dying...
The other things don't really bother me that much. Although they really need to do something with Matt's character (he's just..there). And I guess I'm slightly annoyed with how back and forth Stefan and Elena's relationship seems (not just in terms of breaking up and making up).

Urm... are you also counting how they called themselves "epic" in 1x02, had sex for the first time in 1x10 and in that episode Elena also said she loved Stefan for the first time. 1x11 Stefan told Elena he loved her for the first time.

@katie15 Um, did you even read the commentary? It doesn't say anything negative about any aspect of Stefan-Elena's relationship apart from the fact that they break-up too much. And it is grasping at straws because they don't.

But a shocker that the negative Stefan and Elena option is a winner here on this spot! I have to say that so far all relationships on this show annoy me at the minute, the only potential i see for something good is the Tyler/Caroline/Matt triangle, but only if the writers play it right which i dont think they will doQ

I totally agree with Nibylandija. All of these reasons bother me. But the reason that bothers me the most is I want to see more of Alaric and Jenna.

Stefan and Elena aren't the reason why Vampire Diaries is "Bad" It's ok if you don't like them but Delena isn't the whole Vampire Diaries. There are many SE fans too.

Sure, Stefan & Elena only broke up two & half times this season, but really, I think people are whining/complaining because well... we've been seeing it happen lately. It's getting old :/

Its because SE is such a big focus for the show that when they go back and forth and have all these little falling outs its annoying because we have to sit through them every single time and its always the same so it can get boring. The only other thing that bothers me is how little screen time Alaric has gotten. I'm not too fussed about any of the other stuff.

it didnt even explain anything other than they look alike....BUT WHY! and stefan and elena....together or not together..that is the question. and why do they break up ???stupid reasons and get back together 3 episodes later seriously.

This and the SE fall-outs. Yeah, sure they havent broken up all but 3 times (dont forget when stefan walked away from her in 1x09)
They've had alot of ups and downs. They had 3 last season in a span 6 episode.

Elena says she cant be with him(1x06).
Says she cant lose her feelings for him(1x07)
Stefan invits her to his party at the Grill the next day (1x08). Stefan says they cant be together (1x09).
She tells him she loves him and they have sex (1x10)
Get's mad at him because she finds out her and Kat look alike(1x10)
Stefan tells her he loves her(1x11)

It's was okay for last season, but it's getting old.

slater had deffo awesome potential. and also its ridiculous how they just kill girls left and right in mystic falls loll but id deffo ad killing mason to this list. and yeaa i agree they should make matt more interesting, but personally i thought him and care had an awesome realtionship s1.
