Ok so I know most people will go with one of the series. I how ever just finished watching Harper's Island for the second time, and think that it is a wonderful watch. It is only 13 episodes so you can get through it pretty quick. Then You can watch the rest of them. I would reccomnd Castle, I love that show.

if you start to watch PLL you need to start from the beginning or you would be very lost

This one mostly, but Castle, Community, Veronica Mars, Harper's Island and Modern Family are all really good too.

Community rocks, you should definitely watch it, it's one of the best comedies right now in my opinion! Also for drama Fringe and Veronica Mars are great, Fringe is more science fiction and the story is very captivating. Veronica Mars has a good mixture of drama, some comedy, high school stuff, mystery..it's a great show!
Modern Family is also great, funny original show.

The others I haven't seen

Fringe and Veronica Mars are both amazing products, but they were winning so I gave my vote to something else. However, if you are more in a drama sort of mood, then I recommend starting with one of those two. Fringe is more intense, but it's epic. VM is drama but has a lot of sarcastic type comedy too, so it's a bit more light, again depends of what you feel like watching.

For comedy, all the ones you included are great. Community, Modern Family and Parks&Recreation. I really really love Community, I think it's starting to make it's way up to being my second favorite sitcom, though it keeps changing all the time. Still all amazing shows.

Community is such a great great show. I really would highly recommend it. And PLL because thats just pure fun to watch

VMars, Castle, Parks&Recreation, Community are all amazing! Modern Family is good, too. I don't watch Fringe but I've heard so many good things about it, so I'd recommend that one too ;p

Definitely one of the most unique shows on television, along with great character dynamics. As for comedy I would say Modern Family. I just recently got into Castle, but I rather enjoy it.

Agreed ^- you'll have to start at the begininning. I thought it would be really crappy, and after weeks of annoying texts & emails telling me I should watch this, I finally did just to shut her up. Turns out it's really not that bad. I recommend this the most out of this list.
