One day, Paul and Joanna were hanging out with their friends, Ian and Millie. Some bullies started making fun of Millie. She was often bullied because she was homosexual. They said, "Go get hormone replacement therapy, あなた fucking queer!" She began to cry. Ian said, "She doesn't need hormone replacement therapy! She's fine the way she is!" Joanna said, "That's exactly right!" Paul then said, "But あなた all need attitude adjustment therapy!" The bullies were stunned. Joanna said, "Look, if you're opposed to homosexuals, that's fine, but don't curse at her and tell her to get hormone replacement therapy. Don't call her a queer, either! Call her what she prefers to be called." Millie said, "I prefer to be called Millie." Joanna said, "There あなた go!" The bullies left. Joanna then asked, "Are あなた okay, Millie?" Millie said, "Yeah, I'm fine now. Thanks, guys!" Later, Joanna and Millie were leaving gym class. On the way to their 次 class, they found Paul struggling to his feet. He appeared to be in pain. They rushed to his side. "Paul!" Joanna cried. "What happened?!" He said, "I was beaten." Millie asked, "Who did this to you?" He said, "The same bullies who called あなた a queer earlier." Joanna said, "I'm going to kill them!" He said, "They 発言しました to me, 'Why are あなた helping a queer?!' I said, 'She's one of my mates, and she is not queer. She happens to be an amazing person.' That's when they beat me up." Joanna and Millie helped him to his feet and took him to the school nurse. She 発言しました that he was okay, just really bruised. Joanna later confronted the bullies. She said, "I guess hurting one of my フレンズ wasn't good enough for あなた ラット bastards!" The leader of the group said, "Come on, Joanna. Have a heart. We're trying to eliminate queers and フレンズ of queers, because they're an abomination to society!" She said, "You can't tell me to have a ハート, 心 if あなた don't have a ハート, 心 yourself." The group leader said, "Well, we beat up Paul. What are あなた gonna do, cry about it?" Joanna said, "No, I'm not going to cry." She began to count to ten, then she punched the group leader in the nose when she got to eight. His nose was bleeding as he left. This put fear into his followers who ran away. Later, Joanna was sent to the principal's office. She explained the situation. He said, "Normally, I suspend students for this behavior, but I'll let あなた によって with it, because あなた had good intentions. Still, あなた should have handled it differently." She said, "I know, but I was really upset. They made fun of Millie, and they hurt Paul physically. My emotions overcame my better judgement, and I snapped." Later, Joanna wrote in her diary, "The only good thing that came out of this was that the bullies don't bother me and my フレンズ anymore."
A few hours later, Una and Everett were comfortably snuggled up together on the couch, sharing the last of Una's chocolates which lay in the open box between them, as the credits rolled on the movie.
"That was so good," murmured Una, her head resting on Everett's shoulder. "You know - I was looking フォワード, 前進, 楽しみにして to your plans, whatever they were going to be, but I was really hoping we'd be able to watch this."
Everett gave a small laugh and shook his head. "I wish I'd known. I could have saved myself all this trouble."
Una grinned. "This year, our Valentine's 日 plans were on me," she said. "Next 年 I expect it to be your turn."
Everett felt a warm rush at the thought of 次 year, that Una was so certain they would be celebrating Valentine's 日 together 次 year. But then... of course, Everett though. He wouldn't have considered anything different.
"I 愛 you, Una," he said.
"I 愛 あなた too, Everett," she said.
