No need to clean your glasses. あなた read that right. I liked the Dirty Dancing remake.

First, I need to disclose that I have never actually seen the original Dirty Dancing. I tried about a week ago, after seeing a promo for this, but I only made it about half an 時 in before skimming the Wikipedia summary and calling it quits. I know the original is regarded as a classic and has a lot of fans, so I mean あなた all no disrespect. It's just not my cup of tea. (Or slice of giant watermelon?)

Second, if you're 読書 this still thinking I'm joking about liking it, または came here wanting to troll, save us both some time and 移動する along.

If あなた are unaware: Dirty Dancing is a 2017 made-for-tv remake of a 1987 movie starring Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze. The remake, which shall henceforth be known as Dirty Dancing 2.0, is in the form of a musical and stars Abigail Breslin, コルト Prattes, Sarah Hyland, Debra Messing, Katey Sagal, Bruce Greenwood, J. Quinton Johnson and Billy Dee Williams. It originally aired on ABC on May 24, 2017.

Due to a scheduling conflict, my plan was to watch the first hour, then flip over to the finale of one of my お気に入り shows and catch the musical on its 秒 run if it was any good. But Dirty Dancing 2.0 sucked me in. I watched it all. During a commercial break, I made the mistake of checking to see what Twitter users thought about it. Cue the need to defend it.

Having no attachment to the original seems to be the key to enjoying this remake. (It's the same way with The ロスト Boys sequels - if あなた don't compare them to the original, they're pretty decent standalone movies.) Since I have no attachment whatsoever to the original, I really liked the remake.

It was a fun summer movie. The scenery was pretty, the Colors(色) were bright and warm, the characters were likeable, and it just felt like a good place to be.

Dirty Dancing 2.0 had a great cast who did an awesome job at bringing their characters to life. A lot of the time in ミュージカル and made-for-tv movies, あなた pick up a "I know I'm doing something lame" vibe from a few of the actors, but I didn't catch any of that in this. That's why あなた spring for the pro's.

All the characters were very likeable - well, the ones あなた were supposed to like, anyway. I cared about most of the characters in this movie - and the relationships, which is something that usually makes me like stuff less. I wanted Baby (Abigail Breslin) and Johnny (Colt Prattes) to work, and Baby's parents to fix their marriage, and I was rooting for Baby's sister Lisa (Sarah Hyland) to find someone worthwhile, too.

I had always kind of thought the original Dirty Dancing was a musical. I didn't know otherwise until about a week ago. Maybe my lifelong misconception helped, but I thought Dirty Dancing 2.0 worked really well as a musical. The Baby/Penny scene in the dance studio was probably my お気に入り song-and-dance number - it was just two girls having fun, and it felt very real. The songs that stood out the most for me were Katey Sagal's sultry "Fever" and Sarah Hyland and J. Quinton Johnson's duet, "Don't Think Twice It's Alright".

As far as the dancing goes, I think the original probably wins. From what I saw of it, anyway. It's not something I paid a whole lot of attention to, in either movie. (Which is probably why I didn't bother for 20-something years.)

The 60s costumes were very cool. Everyone had neat stuff to wear, especially the girls, but I'm still hung up on how natural Sarah Hyland looks in a 60s wardrobe. She looks like she was born to wear these clothes. (Please do もっと見る 60s stuff, Sarah!)

Another great thing about the movie was the relationships. Not just the romantic ones, even though I've already established those were worth rooting for, but all of them. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be the relationship between the two sisters. Lisa tells Baby early on that they have nothing in common, and if they weren't sisters, they wouldn't be friends. It was nice seeing them grow closer throughout the movie as their relationship evolved. I also liked Baby's relationship with Penny (Nicole Scherzinger's in-big-trouble pro dancer), and Baby's willingness to help and support a person she barely knew. Another interesting relationship was Marjorie (Debra Messing's lonely wife) and Vivian Pressman (Katey Sagal's cougar divorcee). Vivian did some uncool things, but opening Marjorie's eyes was not one of them.

The ending goes beyond where the original ends (or so I've read), and for me, it was bittersweet. It wasn't quite the happy ending I was hoping for, but it was an interesting choice, and it did leave off on a positive note. The beginning and end were like realistic bookends for a fun summer fantasy.

All in all, I really did like this remake. It's disappointing to see all the scathing コメント floating around the web, but whatever, the internet hates everything, and I'm not going to let them ruin it for me. Dirty Dancing 2.0 was an enjoyable movie and it made me smile. Count me in for another go-around 次 time it's on TV.
