Netizens show displeasure at MONSTA X Jooheon\'s \'black man style English\'

It\'s another case of an idol being deemed racially insensitive by some as a video of MONSTA X\'s Jooheon on the July 22 edition of \'Radio Star\' is garnering some negative attention from international netizens.

In the clip above, Jooheon explains how he had wanted to be black when he was younger due to his love for hip hop, saying he would follow the way they dressed and even talked.  He then showed an example by comparing normal English (calm "What you talking about?") to "how black people talked" ("Hey! What you talking about, man?" with accentuated speech and bodily gestures).  He would go on to say, "I don\'t know what you talking about, mm-mm, mm-mm," with attitude, wagging his finger.

MBC happened to label the video ("Joohun showed black man style english"), did not blow over well with international viewers, who wrote out their feelings in the comments section.  In the few hours that the video clip had been uploaded, comments include, "Jooheon baby... be careful how u word these... First Wendy and now him... the way he says it sounds very ignorant for sure. He should have just said gangster, because quite frankly its not only black people and thats a huge stereotype for black people. I just wish Koreans were just a bit more familiar with westerners... they dont all follow the stereotypes u hear [sic]," and, "So unbelievably racist and ignorant. Just wow, and the people who liked it... slow clap."

However, some people defended him, saying, "Don\'t get all butt hurt people, it\'s not like this stereotype doesn\'t exist elswhere, it\'s not like it\'s something new and surprising. Plus, Koreans (or anyone who doesn\'t live around different races for that fact) don\'t really know any better. That\'s what they see in foreign movies an tv so it\'s all they know [sic]," and, "I don\'t think this is ignorant. He says he is into hip hop culture so he wanted to imitate their clothing and speech. It would be ignorant if he portrays them in a manner that is completely stereotypical and demeaning and disrespectful. He doesn\'t demean anyone in what he does. It is part of his subculture too. Plus, using American standards of behavior to Korean people who have little real exposure to American society is more ignorant."

it\'s not racism it\'s a stereotype, blame your own country if you are not happy because stereotypes don\'t come from nowhere.

YASSS drag the little shit!  Ugh, I cringe every time these pretty flower Korean boys try to imitate black culture.  I feel only YG artists can stand on the same level because they are the only true hip hop rap artists in Korea.  On the other hand, I can\'t wait for my iKON baes to debut soon later this year!

yes he is probably imitating what he saw and heard on TV but it actually comes from american TV itself (for the most part) so it\'s a little bit weird to bash him for imitating what he sees.

Everyone really needs to chill out because all Jooheon is doing is having fun.  That\'s it.  What he is doing is nothing very serious at all.  And also, they need to stop taking things way too seriously all the time.  They gotta lighten up every once in a while

Who doesn\'t copy what they see from movie, especially black/white funny movie that shows  basic stereotypes. Im not offended nor did I think it was funny cause I don\'t know the movie. But I bet if it was Kevin heart or something there would be more love than hate. Just my opinion as a black women.

Honestly this is just ignorance not racism. He\'s only imitating what he\'s seen and this is majorly what is portrayed in the media. But its pretty much the same how in america people think all british people talk with a posh accent. {when they don\'t}

i\'m sorry but lately the word racism comes way too easily to people\'s mouths, the same people who probably don\'t say anything when when white people or any other ethnic group is dealing with imitations or jokes.

not everyone is racist as soon as they imitate another ethnic group, it\'s just the way some of them are represented over the world and often by their own country via tv-shows.

Racism is definitely used too loosely. It reminds me of that TMZ controversy when everyone was quick to say that it was racist when it wasn\'t

Ebonics is widely spoken by Korean Americans too. If he tried to speak with an English accent shouldn\'t that be offensive cause he\'s not British?
