xoheartinohioxo picked Clerks III:
Three Thousand Years of Longing was a really interesting movie, it definitely kept me intrigued the whole way through! I'd recommend it.

The Invitation - It was decent enough, I think if it hadn't been PG-13 it could have been better. Also, it's very hard to not compare it to Ready or Not, and while I enjoyed Ready or Not, I'd prefer more originality... but I don't want to spoil anyone so I'll leave it at that.

Don't Worry Darling - Okay let's start with the obvious, Florence was amazing! The movie was enjoyable, to me at least, and I thought Harry did a decent job. His performance was certainly not award-worthy by any means, but I genuinely feel part of the unevenness of his performance is due to behind-the-scenes bs. There were moments where I thought Florence & Harry's chemistry was magnificent, and Harry was very charming, but then there were times when it just felt... off. I did enjoy the big twist, and I have to say I honestly wasn't expecting it!

Clerks 3 - I have to give this movie love! I've watched so many of Kevin Smith's movies, the previous two Clerks movies, of course, Mallrats, Jay and Silent Bob, Dogma, etc. This movie was such a love letter to fans of Kevin Smith's work and I appreciate it so much ♥

Pearl - This is a prequel to the horror movie X that came out earlier this year and holy guacamole! It was very entertaining, but Jesus... Pearl, you're one sadistic bitch!

I saw this film in the theatres with my fiancé and we both agreed that Florence Pugh and Chris Pine were excellent, but that most of the other stuff in the film was pretty meh. Idk about the behind the scenes crap, but I don't see how Olivia Wilde could go from casting a very method, very intense actor like Shia LaBeouf (who I hate and who definitely needed to be fired, but still) to casting Harry Styles, a dude who has limited experience and zero talent in acting. There is no emotion behind his eyes in the whole film, and throughout the whole film all we both thought was "that's Harry Styles", not "that's this or that character". I think he genuinely should just stick to music, not everyone has to do both.

Beyond that, the film goes from one weird thing to the next, with basically 80% of the plot being: Florence sees something weird - she shrugs it off, Florence sees something weird - she shrugs it off etc etc, until with about 25 min left of the film, suddenly we get the revelation, which wasn't even that surprising to begin with. I watched a youtube commentator watch this film (after already seeing it myself) and he accidentally paused the film on a flash of scenes, and landed on a shot of Florence lying on her back in the bed in the real world with her eyes forced open. And just based on this one shot, he guessed the whole plot of the film - about 10 minutes in. And the biggest problem isn't even that the plot twist's predictable, but that it's not presented in a convincing or interesting way.

And as someone who absolutely loathes sex scenes in films, it was incredibly awkward watching *those* scenes in a full theatre. Not to mention finding them completely unnecessary.

I didn't have high hopes for this film, as I had heard pretty bad things, but at least it was an entertaining watch, even if not a great one. But it's definitely been fun reading and watching people's reactions to this film, so that's something!
