It was called The Blacklist - Season 2 Episode 7 - Episode Review
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
Time To Meet Daddy – The Blacklist – Season 2 Episode 7 – “The Scimitar”
Last week on The Blacklist, we learned more about Ressler’s drug problems and we found out that Tom is still alive and being held captive by Lizzie. After the creators of The Blacklist dragged Lizzie’s secret on for so long, I wasn’t hopeful to hear about Red’s bomb that he was supposedly dropping in this week’s episode, but I was happy with the outcome of this episode and the amount of information revealed.
The episode started in a really cool looking bar in Dubai – everything in Dubai looks awesome – and Samar flirting with someone. They, making out, go up to his hotel room. Shortly after, he falls out of the window and onto a car parked in the street. Is Samar the Scimitar?
Lizzie is interrogating Tom – she is asking him for more information to help her get to Berlin. He finally caves when she threatens to take away his blankets and only source of warmth.
Red calls a meeting with Lizzie and Samar. He catches Lizzie up on what happened in Dubai, and Samar plays it off as if the man (Iran’s top scientist) had committed suicide. The murder was apparently a joint effort between the CIA and the Mosad and the Iranians are planning to retaliate. They have released their man known as The Scimitar to do the deed.
The FBI is planning on hiding their top scientists from The Scimitar to prevent their deaths. They are only able to put two of them into protective custody, hiding the third would draw too much attention.
The scene cuts to a man printing photographs. He hands one over to his boss, whom we can assume is the Scimitar, and they discuss thier target: agent Johnathan Reese of the Defense Security Service.
After receiving a text, Lizzie heads to the pier. Tom is being held on a boat. She brings him some warmer clothes and, although he is grateful, he is upset that he is being held and asks Lizzie when she will hold up her end of the deal. Lizzie leaves and goes to meet with Berlin’s arms dealer (the name she got from Tom earlier) who obliges to set up a meeting with Berlin for her.
The FBI found the surveilance camera that the Iranians were using. Aram is able to activate the camera and find the coordinates of where the live stream was going. The team gears up and quickly heads to the location, which is empty, but they find information on how the Iranians are going to hit Agent Reese. Now, during this scene Lizzie and Ressler both take off their Kevlar jackets once the site is cleared – it seems to me that agents should leave their vests on the whole time, it also seems like a strange detail for the show to portray .
Anyway, the team heads to the location the Iranians are targeting. They catch Reese walking to his car right as some snipers take shots at them. They get in the car and drive off. A motorcycles pulls up next to them and throws a bomb in the car, causing it to (quite awesomely) flip over and roll along the street.
Lizzie wakes up in the hospital next to Ressler. Agent Reese was not present at the scene when the medics arrived, leading Lizzie to understand that the Iranians had made off with him. She gets access to a phone and calls Cooper.
Back at the FBI offices, an agent informs Cooper that Agent John Reese doesn’t exist and Aram chimes in that the hospital has no record of Lizzie or Ressler arriving at the hospital – they are being held somewhere else. Lizzie catches on to the whole schtick and investigates her room a little. She grabs a pair of scissors and goes to work on her cast – it appears that her arm is not actually fractured.
The call that she placed was recorded by the Iranians and they learn who they should actually be after – the one scientist who did not go into PC. It also turns out that the doctor was the lead Iranian, the Scimitar.
Lizzie gets the cast off and removes the pins in her arm. When the nurse comes in Lizzie fights with her and injects her with the sedative. She goes to wake Ressler, who, despite the sedative IV he has been receiving, wakes up. Another Iranian comes in the room to stop them, Lizzie is able to attack and take down this one as well.
Red and Zoe are eating lunch together. They have a heart to heart about their family relationships. Red drugged Zoe and he takes her away.
After catching wind of the whole operation, Samar contacts Red. She has a lead on the Iranians and how to find the Scimitar. Red thanks her for the lead and informs her that the Scimitar may also be the man who killed her brother, making this a personal affair.
Ressler and Lizzie make their way through the fake hospital and find themselves in a large, empty warehouse.
Samar and Red confront her lead. He tells them the Scimitar did contact him and is using one of his warehouses.
As Ressler and Lizzie make their way out of the warehouse they come across more guards, and Lizzie, of course, takes all of them in stride. Samar and the FBI show up just in time to save the day.
The Iranians beat the FBI to the final scientist and they take her into captivity.
The FBI locks down the hotel. Lizzie sees a man walking away and puts two-and-two together. This man is the Scimitar and also the doctor that pretended to treat her. The Iranians get away in a rain of gunfire but they leave behind their luggage – inside which lies Professor Collins.
Red is waiting for the Scimitar, though, and Samar is able to confront him.
Lizzie and Ressler are recovering in their office, she is still concerned about his drug use. Cooper interrupts their conversation – a man’s body has been pulled out of the ocean, his description matches the Scimitar.
During the weekly montage: Lizzie identifies the Scimitar, Samar is looking guilty, Ressler pours out his bottle of pills, and Lizzie goes to visit Tom. They have another conversation studded with grief and anger.
The final moments of the episode show Red driving up to Berlin’s group of men. Red reminds Berlin that he did not kill Berlin’s daughter, but Berlin threatens to kill Red’s daughter. But Red has a surprise for him. Zoe steps out of the car – she is Berlin’s daughter.
Even if you expected that moment to come – it was still a shocking and powerful scene. James Spader at his finest.
What did you think of the episode? Do you think this means Lizzie is Red’s daughter? If not, what is their relaitonship? Comment Below with your thoughts.
