Well historically wise modern day Germany did make up a large portion of the Holy Roman Empire so I think it is very possible.

Even though modern day Germany is where part of HRE was, they still don't really seem like the same person. I guess it could be possible, I just don't like to think they're the same person.

My opinion his changes now and then. But I do think there are way to many hints pointing to it. For one, we have never seen little Germany. We have seen the Chibis for almost all the characters, but Germany. So that is hint one. Plus, it is historically accurate he is.

There's a likely possibility, since they both look similar and the place where HRE once was is now the place of modern-day Germany. It wasn't shown explicitly that HRE is Germany, but there's a possibility.

Well, historically what was left of HRE became Germany so its quite possible that its true but what was "Germany" in the beginning was a bunch of many kingdoms so im not sure..and to be honest, i don't want them to br the same person..it just sounds like some cheesy love story between him and North Italy and thats just plain boring. ( Even if i kind of refer myself sometimes as a "GerIta" fan. )

It's possible they both look very similar and on top of that in the historical standpoint Germany is the place of what was Holy Roman empire so it's very possible!

Aw come on guys. It's pretty obvious. I'm already tired of explaining about the historical basis. It's something everyone knows. But you should have read that strip called link HRE is a bit older there. He looks 100% like the young Germany in link (HRE there even looks like the grown up Germany himself as it is.)
But the most suspicious hint there is that he's acting like Germany there yelling at everyone demanding order in the meeting. Doesn't that remind us of Germany in the 1st episode? We should make out what Himaruya is implying there. He certainly meant HRE to be the young Germany. Besides that it's curious enough that Germany had a hazy memory of Chibitalia in Buon San Valentino. That nails it!
Himaruya just don't want to directly admit it though. You known it will somewhat ruin Germany's "tough cookie" stuffy image if it becomes know that he really was HRE who used to be so lovey dovey lovestrucked over young Italy.

Historically, it's possible. I guess he'd have lost part of himself so he would be different, but it's so hard to imagine HRE being mean to Italy...

Volume 4 of the manga made it clear that Germany and HRE are not the same person.

I only see them as brothers not the one and the same person and this coming from a person who is new to Hetalia fandom and whose favorite anime isn't Hetalia and I mean my favorite anime isn't Hetalia it is a different anime and Hetalia is in the 5th place in my animelist.
