Oscars aren't given for career. He had a nice career, but tons of other people did so who never received an Oscar either (Harrison Ford, Christopher Lee, Johnny Depp etc). And he barely spent any time on screen in DH2. The only person ever to receive an oscar under such circumstances was Antony Hopkins for Silence of the Lambs and, though pretty good he was, Alan Rickman's Snape is nowhere near Hannibal Lecter. Sorry Snape fans.
Would be nice, but I just don't see it happening. As mentioned above, his part in the last movie was very small. I think if the academy did award him with a nomination it would be mostly due to his work through the whole series. Kind of like how they kept neglecting The Lord of the Rings series until the final chapter. Unfortunately the academy is pretty stuck up from what I've seen in the past when it comes to movies such as this. It's a rarity when and if a film of this caliber is nominated for anything. If I had to push an Oscar for this film I would push for best picture so it would honor all those envolved.
I kind of understand the "no" reasoning, but still. He. Is. WORTHY.
More than worthy...!!
