I think she's be become a phenomonal actress and she's been great as Hermione the last couple of movies, but the only time she was "Hermione" to me was in Sorcerer's Stone. She's too good looking and the fact that they changed her personality from the books so much doesn't help either. I do love Emma Watson tho and I've grown to love her as Hermione :)
There are some actors I picture as the characters when I read the books and she is not one. In the first two movies, she was Hermione to me and then "wild, bushy hair" started being misinterpreted as "sleek, curly hair" and all of a sudden she became this beautiful model whom any straight guy would have a crush on instead of the average-looking girl guys just wanted homework answers from.
And I guess this is more of the writers' fault but her personality, like delamico said, is awfully unHermione-ish now. Still, it's the actor's job to deliver the lines in such a way the audience can believe that she is truly the character and I don't get that from her. When I see her on screen I see Emma Watson, not Hermione Granger.
She was Hermione in the first 2 films when she had the bushy hair and the Hermione mannerisms and attitude. But then Emma Watson playing Hermione became Emma Watson playing Emma Watson.
I love Emma, so much ! But as JKRowling said in an interview,
Emma represented Hermione only as a girl who sits and studies.
She said also than in the last movie, Emma was able to bring out
the real Hermione, the other character of her.
So I would say not really.
Emma makes a great Hermione because she's just like her. I feel like all the actors in the series are very similar to their own characters because they've been playing them for so long. Aside from the fact that Emma is very pretty and Hermione is supposed to be an ugly duckling, I think Emma did great!
