cassie-1-2-3 I don't believe what she did was overtly abusive, but just because people hit other people att the time, that doesn't mean it's okay. People rob banks all the time too. Hitting people should never be the way you express how you're feeling. It shows a lack of self control. If the situation was reversed and he punched her, it would have caused contreversy about the book. Even if he didn't really "hurt" her.

Ms_Mea Violence is not okay, but isn't abuse something that is done over and over and over again, not just once? Hermione only hit Ron once (that I know of) and it's only because she was upset, excited, and thrilled all at once. It isn't an excuse, but it better then Edward abusing Bella during most of the book when he wasn't declaring his love for her

So you're seriously believe that Hermione ABUSED Ron, because she hit him after he ran off-without telling her where he was going-when there was a war going on, and could have been killed-then coming back, and trying to get away with it by saying some story and then saying sorry. Abuse is when someone hits you all the time, for no other reason than 'because he felt like it'. Abuse is when you have to be on your toes everyday, because you don't know when the person could strike. Ms_Mea Actually, frequency DOES matter KOF. That's what abuse IS! You obviously haven't been abused before... Can ask you something and can you answer honestly youknowit? If you had a girlfriend, and you loved her, then suddenly she disappears one day and you have NO IDEA where she went. Then one day in the far future, she comes back, and tries to get away with worrying you sick and not telling you where she went...Would you put up with that? Would get pissed or accept her apology? I'm not asking if you'd hit her, or if it'd be ok if you hit her because Hermione did it. I'm asking how'd YOU react?

MyronPwnsBella Okay, I know what it is. abuse-to treat in a harmful, injurious, or offensive way Hermione was just punishing Ron for leaving, she wasn't abusing him. Abuse doesn't have to be just physical; it can be emotional, mental, etc. Edward abuses Bella emotionally. He takes and/or f*cks with her stuff without asking, he keeps her away from her friends, he blackmails her into marriage, and often rubs her clumsiness in her face! So really, Edward's the abuser, not Hermione.

cassie-1-2-3 If it's not abuse, it's assault. Just as bad. Hermione is not Ron's authority. She has no right to "punish" him. Even if he broke her heart. A broken heart does not give you the right to hit another person. She can calmly talk it out, or even yell at him, but hitting is never okay... If you have indeed been abused, I'm shocked you think punching someone is sometimes okay.

Italktosnakes In this case, it's fine. She CLEARLY didn't intend to hurt him, and it didn't cause him any harm. It didn't hurt anyone, it was just the only way she could think to react. It probably wasn't the best move, but she was a teenager. Plus it was hardly a punch, just a whack around the arm. God, this has been taken out of hand.

And you're saying that when Hermione hit Ron when they were friends (a completely normal thing to do) is abuse? *stifles maniac laugh* [i]siriusly[/i]? Are you siriusly saying that? When Ron left he broke Hermione's heart, and when he came back with nothing but a simply sorry, she didn't start crying and going "Ron I missed you I love you!" pathetically like Bella would, she stood her ground. She was hurt, upset, and really pissed off that he'd left her and Harry in the middle of a war, where he could've possibly been killed with snatchers etc... which is completely normal, because you'd have no idea where he'd gone, no idea if he was alive or not. So, no, Hermione's punch was definitely not abuse.
