Another reason is that people always want to have the best of something. Like,(for lack of a better example) Lindsey Lohan vs Hillary Duff. If あなた sided with one あなた did it because あなた thought one was better than the other. Look, both 本 have topped the charts in bestsellers so comparison are going to happen. So don't act all surprised when it does.
Some ファン also find similarities between the two series. Like the Jacob/Bella/Edward 愛 三角形 seemed very similar to the Severus/Lily/James 愛 triangle. There are also similar names such as James, Bella, Charlie, and Alice. Plagiarism isn't right, kids.
Another reason that there are so many Harry Potter/Twilight debates are the actors. There are now two actors between Harry Potter and Twilight. Robert Pattinson played Cedric Diggory and now plays Edward Cullen in Twilight. Jamie Campbell Bower plays Caius in Twilight and Grindelwald in Harry Potter. So because of these bridges in the series they're open to joking.
But one major thing that always adds fuel to the 火災, 火 are the fans.
