The chorus lyrics are “Grease is the word, it’s the word that you’ve heard, it’s got groove, it’s got meaning. Grease is the time, it’s the place, it’s the motion, Grease is the way we are feeling. Grease has groove and meaning, it’s the time, the place, the motion, and the way we are feeling. That describes the word in the song. Back in 1963, 15 years before Grease, a band called The Trashmen released a song called Surfin’ Bird. The lyrics are “Bird, bird, bird, bird is the word.” Is that all he sings in the song? No 説明 about the word? What’s the thing about bird being the word if they don’t describe it in the song? How do we know if bird is the word? Here’s the thing, it’s not. People may have thought that bird was the word before in the 60’s, and early 70’s, but, that all changed in 1978, 15 years after Surfin’ Bird released.
