DarkSarcasm If everyone used the credit & keyword features properly, this kind of thing wouldn't happen... ;) Also, I don't agree with your "DON'T RATE LOW!" statement - if something deserves to be rated low, rate it low. Don't reward users for posting crappy content. Give it what it deserves.

jlhfan624 I understand your frustrations. One the one hand, some people on here have ridiculous standards of what kind of content should be added here and exactly HOW many keywords you should have, etc. BUT on the other hand it's not really fair to get away with not doing ANYthing. My advice is to tag everything you see the images, videos, etc you add with your keywords and give full credit. If you found something on Livejournal for example, giving a user name and/or a community name is really helpful.

jighooligan101 Sorry but thats totally wrong. A lot of things decide what people rate things. Firstly it needs proper key-words, credits and descriptions. Secondly it needs to not be a duplicate or almost a duplicate i.e same image different heading = not a new image. Finally opinion. If I see a video or image I dont like I will rate accordingly. Not that Ill rate it one star if I dont like it but I will rate it lower. Your "Dont Like Dont Rate" suggestion is ridiculous - That totally defeats the purpose of rating its as bad as rating high because someone asks you too. And finally you also always have trolls. Some people will rate low just for the sake of it. If you think your being unfairly treated leave a link to the content int VRSOF spot.

ineedcoffee some people are just trolls, but everyone has a different rating system but to one and not say why is wrong. dont forget the atsof they will check out any 1 starred stuff and rate them.

Cammie Personally speaking I have never encountered a low rating of my stuff - usually it's a 4 or 5 star rating. However, what I do lament about is just non rating at all. You can have 537 view an image and 3 will rate it. Sucks? Absolutely but it's a story any Fanpopper is only too familiar with. I generally rate users' stuff between 3-5 depending on the quality of the content,keywording,credit. The only time I've ever given anyone a 1 star rating is when the content is either totally inappropraite for the spot (eg. a picture of 'hottie' Edward Cullen in the Classic Movies spot,lol)or the content is meant to offend or discriminate.

huddy_aimee i like this, but people do have the right to say what they think about others stuff...i know it hurts... :( but sometimes you just nedd to drink a cup of cement and harden the f*** up... any way i rated this 4 stars... :)

harold As others have said, there's a delicate balancing act here. A 1 rating can be legitimate, but it shouldn't be over-used. It's unlikely that all content a given user posts - ANY given user - is all garbage, just as it's impossible for all the content a given user posts to be AWESOME!!!! It's just not gonna happen. I wrote about my ideas in [url=http://www.fanpop.com/spots/vrsof/articles/3001]this article[/url] last year, but basically my thinking is that every piece of good content should be a 3 by default, graded on a curve, so to speak. So a 2 or a 4 should be uncommonly poor or uncommonly great, respectively, and a 1 or a 5 should be shockingly exceptional. For someone to go through and rate everything a 1 is very likely trolling, either as a general prank on the club or a specific attack on the user posting the content. It's a shame that this stuff happens - and I'm amazed it's never happened to you, Cammie - but the way to make up for it is for every user to be rating content consistently. I know it's difficult sometimes - when the users who are posting the content are the ones who are less likely to have time to rate a lot of content - but it is important for many reasons to rate contently honestly and frequently. Edit: just another note: a number of people have said that they may rate items very low if they are inappropriate to the club in question. That, to me, is the one instance where content [u]should not be rated[/u]. Don't rate it low - REPORT IT as miscategorized. Then, when it is moved the correct club, you can rate it based on its merits. If you rate a piece of content low because of its location, then it may get moved to the correct location, but the low rating will still be with it! I don't think anyone feels that that's a desirable outcome...at least I hope no one feels that it is.

jedigal1990 i partially agree with your article like others said people do deserve to express thieir opinon however i do agree with you mainly its not fair to rate someones stuff very lowly i never do i almost always give 5's the lowest i go is 3 i guess if something is insulting i would rate it low but as long as its decent then i think it automatically deserves a 3 but its really the persons choice but i do agree that it is not really fair

NimfaDora That's pathetic... If the content is bad, low quality or I just don't like it, I will rate it low. If it's a rubbish it doesn't deserve for more than 1 star. You're so childish... you want people to give you 5 stars just because you added something?! When you add make sure it's good so you won't get low ratings.
