I guess it depends on the individual dog, as I'm sure each breed contains individuals who are super sweet and docile, and others who are a real handful! Beagles kind of stood out for me, though. Might be because a friend once had two beagles who were really friendly and gentle and would just randomly flop onto your lap and fall asleep. There probably are some crazy and less sociable beagles out there too, but the ones I've known have been very sweet and friendly.

Any dog, regardless of breed, can be really sweet if the owner cares for the dog and trains it properly. I own a collie who is really sweet. I used to have another collie, and he was sweet, too. I also used to have a Beagle, and he was really sweet. I've never met a Basset Hound, but my dad seems to like them. Every Jack Russell I've met was hyper, not mean, just hyper. I've never met a staffy, but people say they're good dogs. Every husky I've met was sweet.
