The Ninth Doctor and Rose start New-Who off with a bang!
The Ninth Doctor and Rose start New-Who off with a bang!
In the long wait for Series 8 of Doctor Who, I quickly decided upon re-watching the whole lot again, starting from the fantastic Series 1. Series 1 was the series which brought it all back, and it certainly should never be forgotten.

Rose
The very first episode of New era Who definitely struck a chord. Everything about it, from the companion-orientated plot to the brand new cgi and effects, was something very special and very different to what we'd previously seen. The episode gets the right balance between setting the scene and introducing the characters, and tackling the threat of the Nestene Consciousness. We meet the Ninth Doctor, someone shrouded in mystery, which we see through Rose's eyes. And from the Doctor's first word: "Run!", we knew we were in for the trip of a lifetime...

The End of the World
Again, Rose Tyler was the embodiment of the audience, as her curiosity about the Doctor and his world was exactly how the audience was made to feel. The episode is packed full of different aliens and cultures, a taste of what is in store in the coming episodes, and it is definitely a fear of the extraordinary which hits us here: The End of the World, something we're all concerned about at heart. Rose's emotions towards this at the end of the episode is fitting for the whole audience, yet that jokey line at the end: "We've only got another 5 billion years until the shops close," makes us realise how good a life with the Doctor can actually be.

The Unquiet Dead
After an episode far in the future, we now travel to the distant past and meet Charles Dickens, and the walking dead. The storyline is a very good idea, what with the 'ghosts' actually being aliens, and we get a further taste at how terrible the world can be. The Gelth are deceiving and manipulative, inhabiting corpses which makes them utterly frightening. Yet it is the sacrifice of Gwenyth which really breaks your heart. However, I do have pacing issues with this episode, as i feel it ロスト my attention occasionally, but it still stands as one of the scariest episodes of New-Who.

Aliens of London/World War Three
The two-parter stories in Doctor Who are often the best, as they never suffer from cramming too much into a short time space. The first story in this two-parter did well in setting the ball rolling, and I was on the edge of my シート, 座席 on a couple of occasions. The episode does suffer from slow pacing though, and I think the execution of the Slitheen as farty monsters was a bit too childish. I do 愛 how we got to see that The Doctor's time travel can go a bit wrong however, as Rose ends up being missing for a year.
Ranking: 6.5/10
The 秒 part of the story was not brilliant, but it topped the first half によって far. It was full of tension, fear, and I held a lot of concern for the characters, who were plunged into a very sticky situation. It was nice to see Jackie and Mickey getting involved and helping to save the day, and the scene were The Doctor must decide whether to sacrifice Rose is chilling.
Ranking: 7.5/10

Dalek
I'm sure a lot of Whovians will agree when I say that this was possibly the best Dalek story ever to be created. It showed just how dangerous even one Dalek can be, a Dalek which is tortured and haunted によって the losses it had faced in the Time War, and how it lashed out on the humans in anger and hate. Rose was on 上, ページのトップへ form here, and we realise that The Doctor, seething with resentment for the lone Dalek, needs someone. We are made to feel truly upset for the Dalek at the end, which is driven mad によって human emotions, even though it has just killed hundreds of humans. A real gem of an episode.
Ranking: 10/10

The Long Game
The Doctor only takes the best. The message that the audience is supposed to acknowledge through the mistakes of Adam Mitchell. This story, although crucial to the series story arc, somehow becomes ロスト in the episodes which surround it. The concept of the episode was great, yet I feel that a great deal of 'spark' was missing. There wasn't much story behind it, and I am left feeling unsatisfied.

 David and Matt.
David and Matt.
We all know David Tennant has left Doctor Who and made way for the 11th doctor, Matt Smith. But many die-hard David ファン (inclduing myself) just can't seem to accept the sudden change. Too me the 10th Doctor was humble, quick-wittied, handsome, charming and selfless. All the qualities that David made lucid and unforgetable. It was bizarre and dipairing knowing that his Doctor was... over. Don't get me wrong, im starting to like Matt, his versatile and eccentric performance drew me in instantly. People say he made the Doctor his own, but too me, it reminds me to much of David. The enternal struggle between who is better David または Matt, seems never-ending, and in all honesty it's a ロスト battle. Opinions will always be objective and arguements will forever alternate. I guess we all just need to accept the inevitable; Davids gone and Matt has replaced. We always have the dvds, right?
