orchidpea, i think that the year that the film came out doesn't matter a lot in the popularity... nowadays, with dvd, blu-ray, vhs, internet, etc, children may acess the movies easily... so it's indiferent if it came out in 1950 or 1989... however, I think they're nearly tied

Cinderella and Snow White were the first two princesses so they would proably be the more well-known. But each of the princesses could be very easily known by young girls because they can just go to the shops and buy the films.
