Jasmine never did. Jafar put her in that outfit. Plus, her blue one is traditional for women of her culture to wear (back then).

She did use her body though to distract him. Not that there where many other options, but she were many other options for her to pick if she wanted to cause a distraction.

She did what she had to do with the resources available to her at the time.

I really doubt that's what non-concubine Muslim women, much less a princess, wore back then regularly but I'm no history buff.

Not ''over'' sexualized, but still sexualized it really bothers me. The kid is only 15 and no woman or girl during her time wore that and there's the time where she seduced Jafar. Ugh. It seems like they were fetching Arabs and being pedophilic. Again she's a KID!

*yawns* No. No. No. No. And NO. This girl is aware of her looks, but is aggravated that everyone treats her differently because of them. SIGH.

Alright, this is my problem. A lot of people say, "Oh, she did what she had to", or "it was her only resource!" Or something like that. They're defending Jasmine, and in the point of view, are completely right. But when actual critiques critique a movie, are they going to blame Jasmine for "over-sexualizing" herself, or the WRITERS for making their cartoon character do that? I choose to believe that those comments are directed towards the writers. What good would it do to tell a movie character what she shouldn't have done?

I understand where they're coming from. Jasmine did what she had to (partly because of the circumstances, and partly because she is a character in a movie and doesn't have a say in what the writers had her do) in that scene. But why did it have to happen at all? Disney just as easily could have had a throwing knife lying on a table for Jasmine to throw at him, or even the apple she had been holding! She could have thrown that at him and then tried to run away, making him chase her, pin her against the wall and threaten her, and then see Aladdin's reflection in her crown.

The writers did not have to make her seduce Jafar. They could have just as easily had Jasmine do something else. So when people complain about this kind of stuff, I do not believe that professional critiques are calling out an animated character so much as the people responsible for writing said animated character.

And of course, there is the fact that Jasmine is only fifteen years old. I think that also rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Jasmine is a teenager; not a women.

I'm not saying I hate Jasmine; she's actually my favorite Disney Princess. But I just wanted to point out that most critiques are not trying to attack her. They're responding to her screen writers.
