I think it depends on what they say. If they just hate their movies, that's understandable because it's their opinion. If they bash their looks and what not, that's taking it a bit too far.
Exactly^^^ if they are just saying out right hurtful things just to get a reaction out of others then yes they would be ignorant. But if they just don't like them,well...then...that's there decision.
^Agreed, though I think it's wrong to even hate fictional characters. But I have to say I have never heard a single good reason to hate them with the hostility some people do. and they NEVER have actually analyzed them and their movies.
I find that people who find them too anti-feminist are slightly ignorant, not in general, but with regards to the Disney princesses. It really depends on their opinion but even if they dislike the princesses for no reason, I wouldn't consider them ignorant for having an opinion.
Only DP fans say that. I also don't mind when they say it's for kids because it is just like you people say The hunchback of Notre Dame is not for kids.
I agree with AudreyFreak. Firstly, I haven't met any Disney hater that gives a good argument. Also, I respect that some people may dislike the Disney Princesses. But really, why HATE? What about the DPs can be so horrible that could cause someone to hate them? They're fictional characters for God's shake! People who don't like Disney princesses are not necessarily ignorant, but those who claim to hate them...they usually say that they're "anti-feminist", or "too girly" or "for children". That's what I call ignorance. I'm not saying there's no execption, but the majority of the Disney Princess haters are absolutely ignorant.
^Yes, that's exactly what I mean. DISLIKE? Fine, feel free to do that. But hate is pretty extreme. What could a fictional character possibly have done to deserve an emotion normally reserved for criminals, killers, abusers, etc?
Not all the time but I have seen some ignorant haters who say that the first 3 just wait around for a prince the whole movie or don't even know who Tiana or Merida are, obviously they haven't really paid too much attentionto the DPs so I don't know how they could hate them when they barely know them. Some people don't even know what they are talking about or get their facts straight when they hate on the princesses. They could at least be informed haters. Anyway, if they just don't like them then that's just their opinion and it's not ignorant, it all depends on the reasons really.
It depends. But based on the explanations I've seen from them, I have to say yez. Most of the things they say don't actually happen in the movie/happen differently.
Most of the people who hate the Disney Princesses or Disney in general do so because they generalize all the princesses stories as "pretty young white girls who get their wishes without ever having to do any work." Not to say all do, but this is the general consensus of people who dismiss fairy tails in general. They generally never look at the deeper meaning of the stories or the virtues the characters hold. And I would call this being rather ignorant.
Ironically, this is how we get a poorly constructed film like Frozen getting so much public attention, since it provides superficial "modern" messages, that many people think provide a better world view than the classic fairy tales do.
I'm going to just take it, this way. People will dislike what they dislike. Some will add to this--- by making up bogus reasons to prop up their stance. But before you dismiss every single DP as a bad character, you should actually take the time to watch and analyze the movies in question at least once.
Heck! Even I dislike the majority of Disney Princesses, there's nothing ignorant about having a different opinion. Then again if they don't have an actually logical reason then, yes.
But I actually don't like Disney and it's not because I generalize I just over-analyze.
All haters of something are ignorant.
If you have some criticism as whole for the princesses and dislike the princess merchandise and messages for example, and just hate some of them there is nothing wrong with that and it is different that being a hater. At least if your comments are based on something and not just general provocation.
But I must say there are many who really terribly ignorant about the Disney princess films and the characters, and base their opinions only on merchandise and things that they have heard from other people.
