I think this is a debatable issue because I simply hate the grunting in womens tennis. It's just so unneeded and makes the women look bad, espeshally on television.

men do it as well anyway

this is like saying "women shouldn't swear because it's not ladylike". #%@$ that!

these women are unbelievably good at what they do, and it's hard work. they're grunting because of the enormous amount of physical endurance and strength it takes to do what they do. so maybe we should appreciate how sexy it is that they're so powerful instead of wanting them to just be delicate and pretty.

Not illegal, but against the rules for both men and women to grunt excessively. It really does sound like they are taking a "never-ending-story" crap.

okay are you saying because they hit with so much force that it causes them to grunt that it should be illegal, that I assume goes for mens tennis, so tell me how it is unnecessary. It has to do with body size and force with which they have to hit the ball to me that is necessary. Correct me if I am wrong.

Um.. Who cares what sounds they make? Why is that important? If it annoys you, don't watch it. The important thing to focus on is their Tennis-playing.

I have chosen to close this question. I didn't think this would be such a big deal, but I see it is. I'm sorry if any of you take any offence to this question, I just don't like it, and I asked it just to see if anybody felt the same way I did. If I think of a question like this again I will just keep it to myself. Here's hope for a better future.

I play tennis... sometimes when I hit a really powerful shot, a grunt just comes out. I sure hope it doesn't annoy anyone. And, honestly, I don't don't think its something I could control.

so what! grunting makes them hit the ball harder and sometimes can be involuntary like kateliness says.
