i think it's all relative. "tradition" and "values" are just words that represent social constructs that mean different things to different groups of people. so in their minds, i'm sure they really are concerned about what they consider those words to mean.

This is true.

*Sigh.* I really shouldn't browse sites like those. They make me angry and then I go on my whole "I'm not listening anymore!" rant.

I half-want to report this pick now. It's lame.

Gstine picked No, they're just using buzz words to close-mindedly propogate their own opinion:
Virtually all political groups choose deliberately inoffensive names. I used to work for the Human Rights Campaign which, depite the name, is specifically a gay rights group. HRC's opinion is that the name is meant to highlight that gay's are human beings and gay rights are human rights. Which is all well and good except that a lot of people in the public were genuinely confused by it. People would say things like, "Well, if you're the HUMAN Rights Campaign, why aren't you helping the people in Darfur?" I couldn't really argue with them on that one.

Anyway, with virtually every political organization, you have to look beneath the name and look at their actual politics. Even groups with a good cause can be deceptive if you don't pay attention.

I think that they believe what they do helps American values, but that doesn't mean they're not dangerous.

Unsure which way to go on this one.

Yeah, I agree with bliss--I think most of them at least really believe in what they're doing. Which is frightening.
