I eat an almost fully vegetarian diet. Occasionally I'll have fish or chicken, and sometimes turkey, but that's about it. I think the last time I ate meat was about a week ago.

so not eat much meat because of the health stand point or animal stand point?

Being vegetarian is good because of health issues and animal issues, but I'd never become a vegetarian. I've heard speeches and read books, and I don't see the point of being me being a vegetarian. That's just my personal choice though, I'm proud of you guys for being vegetarians, that's a really cool thing to do.

Yup. First of all, I never really liked the taste of 90% of meat to begin with, and eventually it all tasted awful. Then I read up on it, educated myself on the meat industry, health issues, and animal cruelty. I made my decision and have never looked back :)

up until about 4 years ago, i was a complete carnivore. i loooved meat (i'm part Polish, it's in my nature haha). then i met some vegetarians and started realizing how ignorant i was about where my food came from and the effect it had on me and on the planet. it took less than 24 hours of research for me to quit cold turkey (pardon the pun ;). i cleaned out all the meat in my house and i've never gone back (except in the last few months i've introduced a little bit of fish). besides, there's no such thing as a meat-eating environmentalist.

what do you mean by you "don't see the point" in becoming vegetarian, ThinkPink? what's your reasoning?

oo I'm part polish too :) i understand where people are coming from and everything and have no beef (excuse my pun) with people who are vegetarians or vegans it's their choice and i have the utmost respect for people who stick with it, and don't even mind people preaching to me about it, however i truly can not stand people that give their pets "vegetarian pet food" or bring their kids up vegetarians and not allow them to make the choice themselves or even pregnant vegans/vegetarians, it's just not healthy for your child

For me, personally, being a vegetarian would be more of a strain than a benefit. That's why I mean by "don't see the point."
I'm a firm believer that you need a balanced diet, carbs, fats, and proteins included, and meat has nutrients that supplements can't give to you. And I'm with you, debs, about parents not letting their kids decide. It's not healthy.

actually, a lot of vegetarians have healthier, more balanced diets than meat-eaters. soy contains more usable protein than any meat, and it's entirely possible to get all the vitamins and minerals you need without ever eating an ounce of meat. a vegetarian diet also significantly decreases your risks of developping things like heart disease, diabetes, and some forms of cancer. oh, and vegetarians live an average of 6 to 10 years longer than meat eaters :)
i don't want to come off like i'm trying to convert people, you're absolutely free to make your own decisions. however, there are a lot of misconceptions about vegetarianism, and i like to clarify wherever possible :)

actual i don't think the health thing comes in to it as you can have a balanced diet weather you eat meat or not, i think there's a lot of misconceptions on both sides as most data on the subject is gathered by biased parties

"there's three types of lies, lies:lies, dam lies and statistics"

Although i do think that vegetarians and specifically vegans are often a lot more aware of whats in their food, but that is just my experience from my friends

You can have a perfectly balanced diet without eating meat. Essentially, it's about getting the 20 different amino-acids from your foods to help build/repair muscle. Flesh from animals is one of the few sources that have all twenty, but not the only source. Tofu, soy varieties of beans, have these amino acids in them as well, but without the fat and cholesterol that comes from eating animal.

I'm not saying that all vegetarians are perfectly healthy, but you can be and it's really not all that difficult.

I'm also just helping clear up misconceptions; you can be healthy with so many different diets, and it's quite unfair to assume that you can't.

1. I love meat, especially red meat.
2. Eating meat is healthy and natural--our bodies are naturally omnivorous.
3. Some types of animals (like chickens for example) are bred and killed in a very inhumane and disgusting way. This should be stopped.
4. Animals have some rights, but not as many as humans do.

I love meat, I can't live with out it specially red meat and I hate chiken. I respect the whole viggetarian thing and all but I can't put myself to not eat what I love just because they believe that animals would be treated like people. That is in my opinion, I hope I didn't offend anyone.

I've been a vegetarian since I was born, although I did have a brief meat eating phase. ;)
If I have kids at first they won't eat meat but once they're old enough it's completely up to them.
Thats what my parents have done. I chose to still be a vegetarian and my sister now eats meat.
