Pretty sure religions can't get link.

Incidentally, that's the type of breast cancer my mother was diagnosed with, which is how we found out her maternal family was Jewish.

Judaism is not the same as Jewishness. I know atheists who call themselves Jewish; they obviously don't believe in Judaism (religion), but they still think of themselves as Jewish (race).

Race only exists if everyone agrees it does, though. In modern America, most Ashkenazim are just white unless the KKK happen to be around.

I definitely believe to know for a fact that Judaism is a religion.

As for race...I guess you can say that I'm opened to the concept of an individual being 'Jewish' as one being of a particular 'race'. I'm just a bit skeptical of this.

To be perfectly honest, and if it's an ignorant claim then I will take full responsibility of it, I sometimes think that the assumptions and/or statements of Judaism being a race were the direct results of Hitler and his Anti-Semitic beliefs and speeches rubbing off onto the German people, and eventually foreign societies.

But again, if I'm not correct about this one (which I do suspect that I am :/), then...well, you learn something new everday. :)

There's no difference between "Judaism" and "Jewishness". Jewishness is not even a real word.

It's stated so.comewhere in the Hebrew Bible that a Jew is a descendant of Jacob, meaning it's in their blood.
It was later changed to all physical and spiritual descendants of Jacob, when they started allowing conversions.
A Jewish conversion ceremony is pretty much allowing Jacob to "adopt" you as one of his descendants.
There is such a thing as a Jewish bloodline. It all stems from Jacob.

The Ashkenazi and Sephardi Jews (Germanic and Hispanic Jews respectively) were acknowledged to be separate Jewish races long before Hitler. It is only quite recently that Jews have been able to assimilate, and then only the Ashkenazim (plural form) have success with being seen as just white. Sephardi people encounter racism because they are distinctly too dark to be white and are generally just considered Middle Eastern by Americans unfamiliar with Middle East race politics.

Incidentally, I hate when white Americans try to claim they don't have white privilege because they are Ashkenazi. The only modern Americans who actually acknowledge Ashkenazi as a distinct race are prejudiced Orthodox Jews refusing to assimilate and extreme anti-Semites like the KKK. Being Ashkenazi just gives you an interesting ethnic family history whose tales of oppression should make you sympathetic to the currently downtrodden but probably won't because people are pretentious. I vote being Jewish counts as a race because there is enough of a meme that it does, but this meme is very obsolete. It arises when the KKK comes in the room and vanishes when they leave. In modern times, the labels Ashkenazi and Sephardi only serve in keeping Jews from each other.
