panther-jewel I was shocked when I first heard of the existence of a Bamon fandome, because I have never even slightly found any sign for that. They have some kind of father-daughter- or bigbrother-littlesister-relation in the books and nothing at all before the weird and forced friendship just recently in the TV show, where Bonnie doesn’t even have the “dark-romantic-death streak” of the books but is instead (as a “Elena’s-book-friends-combination”) sceptical of vampires and immune to Damon’s charm like book-Meredith. I heard that the ship probably started as a supporting ship for Stelena, because the SE fans wanted to see Damon with someone else, and that is the only explanation that makes at least a slight sense. I still don’t understand it though, and I despise Bamon and Stelena to the same extent, but for partly different reasons, and so much more than anybody or anything else ever. SE are forced, abusive and SO many other things, and I almost quit watching several times in the early seasons because of them, and only Damon and the unfortunately not-often-enough DE moments kept me watching. But I know that Stelena were willingly made like that, and unlike Bamon, they had an – ancient-spell-forced – relationship in the story. I don’t understand though how anyone could ship a couple that goes against Delena, especially DB or SE, ship any couple more than DE, or not ship Delena, THE couple of all times.

delenasalvatore I agree. In the beginning, I thought there was definite potential for a Stefan/Bonnie pairing. They seemed to have a connection. Stefan won Bonnie over fast and he really respected her (unlike Damon). I remember in the early days, the biggest attraction to 'Bamon' from the fans was hotness of seeing a vampire/witch combination. But the Bamon fans never seemed to consider Stefan. I suppose because a lot of them liked Stelena. They do make more sense. I was astonished when I heard a Bamon fandom existed - because there just seemed to be no real reason to ship them in the show whatsoever. I think now though, that I do sort of see why there is a Bamon fanbase from the books. Bonnie is more of a girl-next-door type than Elena is. Elena is blonde, beautiful, popular and basically it's very difficult to relate to that. Bonnie is short and red-headed and ditzy, and definitely more 'Miss Average' than 'Miss Perfect'. I noticed in the Twilight saga that Bella is very, very ordinary. I've never read 'Fifty Shades' but I believe Ana is a bit like that as well. Girls relate to that, they don't relate well to characters who have everything. I think the reason Bamon have a following from the books is because some people related or liked Bonnie more than Elena (although I found book Bonnie really annoying). It's fantasy wish-fulfilment: a slightly average girl and the dark, handsome, dangerous vampire. I believe that's partly where the attraction lies.

loveofdelena yeah, the vampire witch argument seriously irritated me. it s such a rediculous excuse to use against delena. for me, i think that the stelena fans never considered stonnie as it would have been a threat to their precious stelena. and as for the bamon fans, dittzy, sweet, niave young witch, paired with the strong, wise and sexy older vampire. yep, thats defenatly where the attraction lay. for me, bamon in the books was cringe worthy, i couldnt for the life of me, picture someone like damon, with someone as pathetic, sickleysweet, childish, and niave as bonnie. the very thought made me feel like heaving. book delena on ther other hand, that gave me chills! it was so, so intense, heartfelt. there was an instant connection there straight away. and it was much more adult than than bamon. infact the one time i did like book elena, was when she was with damon. it brought out the very best in her character.

I like everything that you said! @delenasalvatore Yeah, I can understand that. I don't agree with their pairings though. The original author L.J Smith wrote a few Bamon scenes in her books and I briefly read through them, meaning they bored me much like the Stelena moments. The only reason I continued was to get to the epic Delena :) I enjoyed reading from Damon's point of view too. I have also read the ghostwriter's versions as well. I didn't like their writings that much. Especially the last author (Aubrey Clarke) For me it was centered around Stelena which made me feel surprised at the ending. Now that L.J Smith is writing again, well fanfiction on Kindle Worlds it will be interesting to find out who she wants for endgame. I can't access these stories because I don't have an Amazon account and they aren't available to anyone outside the United States at the moment. You're right! Bonnie is very annoying in the books and I can relate to Elena. Elena is the good girl but she connects with the dark, dangerous vampire who loves her more than anything. That's real attraction. @loveofdelena I know! It is a ridiculous argument. Watching the show we've seen how dangerous Stefan can be too so how could he not have been an option for Bonnie? Oh Stelena fans, they frustrate me as well. How can they still see Elena and Stefan as a potential couple after all this time? He has moved on. She has also. Yet they still won't let go. Bonnie/Damon as anything romantic in the show or books is sickening. As I mentioned above about L.J Smith's fanfiction, well the second book called Evensong: The War of Roses is about Bonnie. cathyirishchic I can't remember if Lisa wrote them before or after the "growing relationship" between Damon and Bonnie on the show. I do know that she has no influence in what happens there. Although she is writing fanfiction, these books would have been her official if she hadn't got fired. So it is torture for us Delena fans to even contemplate the idea of Bamon. I despise Bonnie...I tolerated her before without the crush for Damon but now this! Hell no! She revealed in the foreword that there will be a wedding and a few details however she won't say who the bride and groom are. I can guess Damon...because black roses, hello? That's not obvious. XD As for the bride it better not be Bonnie!!!!! I will hate Lisa forever!!!!
