	ArabellaElfie picked when she did: I think the characterization on her in the start was slightly weak (the Real Me just never read right to me) but I do believe that the storyline was amazing. It was a completely new direction and a much needed boost after season four which I felt was a good concept and a season of wonderful individual episodes but overall lacking. The character of Dawn allowed for Joyce to die (I think we needed a family member for Buffy as a touchstone), the story of Glory and worked well to bring different reactions from other characters. Dawn is a new breed of animal for the others to react against (I love the Spike stuff with Dawn and we would never see it without her - it had to be Buffy's little sister, not just another younger girl). Knowing Dawn and what came after I have problems seeing the show without her. I don't think her from the start would have worked and I have read comics that put her into the action from earlier seasons (basically one was a cop out. Switch Dawn for Willow in the Angelus hallway scene in Innocence), but I would like a Buffy novel on this. Too bad the offical Buffy novels went the way of the Master. Dusted to a fine powder.
