I love Punzy, but Merida is, as I expected, one of the most epically awesome characters ever...one of my favorites...gaaahhh, I LOVE the hell out of her SOOOO much. 8-X
And if she were somehow related to Mother Gothel, I'd die from awesome overload.
I LOVE Merida!!! I'd choose her (and her hair) over Rapunzel (and her hair) any day! Truthfully, I feel that Rapunzel should have been on the Pixar line because some people from Pixar and Dreamworks worked on the movie and you can tell (I'm not saying that because its not a 2D movie either). If she was then with Brave coming out we could have had Pixar Princess line!
;D
Interesting idea about "Pixar Princesses," although I kind of doubt that Pixar will really come out with enough other princess characters to start a separate collection. Yes, some Pixar people did work on Rapunzel, but it was still a Walt Disney Animation Studios production and not a Pixar Studios one (Disney owns Pixar, but Pixar movies are still made entirely within their own studio just as they always have been.)
Merida is a bad princess in theory but a good one in practice. She acts like a COMPLETE selfish, ungrateful, spoiled brat in the beginning, but she does something in the end almost none of the heroines do- BUT unfortunately that is not what people remember her for: they remember and love her for her rebellion, hobbies, wild attitude, etc.
Rapunzel is the exact opposite: a good princess in theory but bad in practice. she has a cute, great personality we can all relate to. BUT, she is never wrong, always right (even when she does something bad- and she does), she has no idea Gothel is a kidnapper so she isn't leaving the tower for her own good, just to have some fun. So she is being defiant against someone she truly believes loves her and will be hurt by her!
So Merida makes better choices since poor Punz's movie is so too-well-calculated and manipulative, but I still prefer her enormously to Merida.

But i admire Merida for her confidence and not being afraid to stand up for what she believes in.
