I have read that young princess Merida will be included in the princess line and upon hearing the news, to say the least, I was thrilled.
Merida is obviously an admirable chatacter-independent, free willed, but also loving and intellegent. But what marks her among the place of the best princesses iis her faults and vulnerability. She says and does things she regrets, she makes mistakes, but deals with the consequences and fixes them. The only other princesses who do likewise are Pochahonts, Mulan, and Tiana. Rapunzel is merely a victim of what she does not know. Belle and Ariel make mistakes and deal with the consequences, but they are too great a size for them to completely solve them. The rest are typical damsels in distress. This is especially good because little girls idolize princesses. They (the princesses) are teenagers and adults and all little girls want to wear dresses, fall in love, and have adventures because that is supposedly what teenagers and adults do. It is wonderful to have もっと見る characters to remind them that they don't have to be perfect and its okay to make mistakes as long as they try to solve their problems.
Merida settles the overdone Phobia that princesses encourage eating disorders (I myself never noticed their bodies as a child, I only cared for the fairy tales I loved). Look at Merida's body, she is slim, but not bony and even muscular, in a way. She is shown doing physical activity such as climbing, horseback riding, and (obviously) archery (which requires a lot of upper body strength!!!). But she also is shown to have an appetite, eats when hungry, and sacrifices a 年 of desserts to the triplets to help her mother escape.
Merida breaks several grounds: she is the first ピクサー・アニメーション・スタジオ princess. She is the first princess who does not burst into song. She is the first princess without a 愛 interest. She does not find true 愛 along the way of her journey, she learns the importance of family love, forgiveness, courage, leadership, and wisdom. She matures and develops instead of being completely right from the 上, ページのトップへ of the film to the end. She is a role model to admire and look up to. She is a portrait of all teenage girls and even, one might argue, us.
