Last year, Bibi Bourelly broke into the mainstream after writing Rihanna’s “Bitch Better Have My Money” and “Higher,” and making a cameo on Lil Wayne’s “Without You.” Now, the 21-year-old is continuing to gain steam, first with a powerful performance of “Riot” at last weekend’s BET Awards and now with a brand-new song.

Bourelly and rising R&B crooner Earl St. Clair debuted “Perfect” on

on Tuesday night, backed by Jon Batiste and his band Stay Human. The bluesy, slow-burning number sounds timeless, but has a couple millennial-appropriate references sprinkled throughout (“my iPhone’s cracked” and “eyebrows on fleek,” for example). It’s all made sweeter by the way Bourelly’s expressive vocals and St. Clair’s gruffness melt together, as they agonize over a love that feels too good to be true: “You’re a little too perfect, baby / You’re a little too perfect for me.”
