Meanwhile…
Spencer Nicolson, who was supposed to be with the archers currently advancing on the compound, was within one of the facilities in the far back that had yet to be reached によって the Holy Crusaders. He had a relaxed smile on his face as Sebastian Locksley stood beside him, frowning at the situation before them. In front of them, two ugly looking men who were easily twice their size looked back at them with annoyed looks.
“So あなた really did not come to surrender?” One of them grumbled in disappointment. Sebastian shook his head for what felt like the fifth time.
“As I said; I’m not affiliated with those people attacking you, so I don’t have the right to speak on their behalf. This guy is just here to guide me without any orders, so he can’t either. I need to speak with the Roman god of war.”
Both of the burly men traded annoyed looks and began mumbling to each other in an old language Sebastian could not understand, probably discussing what to do.
The four were standing within the first floor of a military facility that was actually quite nice considering how far removed it was from civilization. The floor was polished and the walls were white, giving the same feeling as a modern 日 hospital.
“Very well,” One of them men, named Ragnar, sighed in agreement. “We prefer that あなた would surrender. It will hurt the chief’s pride if this drags out too long and he gets involved to wipe everyone out. But since you’re insistent, we’ll focus on your request and grant it. Come on.”

“Lord Mars, あなた have company.”
The undead warrior Ragnar bowed his head to the tall Roman gladiator as soon as he knocked and opened the door to the office on the 秒 floor of the facility. The gladiator stood behind the 机, デスク glaring out the window and his eyes flickered toward their reflection as he heard the door open.
“Ragnar, explain yourself.” He growled in a low and threatening voice. Ragnar bowed once もっと見る as the three knights entered behind him.
“My liege, I understand that we are under siege, but I am confident that we can keep them at ベイ, 湾 until—“
“I’m not interested in hearing your excuses. As soon as I enter the fray, it will be over. What I want to know is why あなた have brought two mortals before me—one of which is from the enemy army.”
“They have come seeking an audience with you.”
“Hmph. Very well then.”
Mars stepped around his 机, デスク to stand before the two knights with his arms folded over his chest. Spencer stood with his arm at his side politely, but his shoulders were tense as he frowned at the god. Mar paid him no mind, however. He glared directly at Sebastian as if he knew that he was the one who wished to speak with him. Mars’ eyes burned with flames rather than eyeballs—flames that stoked war and bloodshed. He leaned back against the 机, デスク as a frown remained on his battle hardened face.
“Normally I would assume that you’ve come to offer your unconditional surrender, but considering that this one before me is not one of those overzealous templars currently laying waste to this compound, I assume that you’ve come for other reasons.”
“You are correct, Sir Mars.” Sebastian nodded respectfully. “I have heard that while searching for your stolen spear, the Wild Hunt kidnapped several living humans and brought them here.”
“This is true. It is within their nature. Even with me guiding them it’s difficult for them to resist their barbaric instincts. Well, it’s fine so long as they do not forget their goal. I do not care what happens so long as I recover によって spear. It is a symbol of my power and my wrath shall fall on whoever had the audacity to steal it.”
“Of course, sir. And it is my wish to return those souls back their bodies unharmed.”
“In that case, we have an agreement.”
Mars was responding with surprising calm. He didn’t seem good-natured. Rather, it seemed like he did not care about anything else so long as he recovered his spear. It must have been that important to him. Since it was going so smoothly, it made Sebastian regretful to speak his 次 words.
“Sir Mars, while I wish to recover the souls…I do not have the spear to trade for them with.”
A dark look passed over the god’s face in an instant and Sebastian felt Spencer stiffen cautiously, as if expecting a sudden attack. Sebastian, however, continued to look back at the god, forcing himself to be calm.
“I see. Then tell me, foolish young knight. Why have あなた come here?”
“As I told you, I wish to recover the souls undamaged—”
“SILENCE, あなた IMPERTINENT CHILD!”
Sebastian winced as the roar hit him like a パンチ in the gut. Literally. The force of the god’s voice was enough to reproduce the feeling of a blunt object being slammed into his gut, making the knight stagger. Mars brought a fist up and smashed it into the 机, デスク behind him, reducing it to splinters. A spherical cage that seemed to be woven from branches sat among the splintered wood and he picked it up, holding it high. Sebastian’s eyes widened as he saw the faint glow of human souls being held within it.
“I am MARS! God of war! Crusher of the idiots who dare oppose the mightiest empire in the WORLD! あなた dare come before me to bargain without even so much as an OFFERING?! I will not stand for the indignity of being LIED TO!”
The war god tossed the cage of souls away from him, directly toward the wall. Sebastian acted immediately, throwing himself between the ウォール and the cage, catching it in his chest. Sebastian sighed in relief even as he landed hard on his back. Though a cage strong enough to carry souls probably wouldn’t break so easily, it still bothered him to see it handled so carelessly.
“Sebastian, あなた bastard! Why didn’t あなた tell me あなた had the spear?!”
Spencer suddenly yelled out, catching Sebastian’s attention. He looked up to see Mars standing in the spot Sebastian had jumped from. Using magic that enhanced his physical strength, Sebastian had traveled roughly five meters from standing still in order to reach the cage of souls in time. Mars knelt down and picked up a small rod from the ground, observing it with a tired expression.
Sebastian recognized it as the object that had been 与えられた to him によって Quincy in order to reach this place from Ukraine. It had likely fallen out of his pocket when he jumped, but he didn’t see how it related to the spear. Unless…
“Liars and thieves who lie and steal from the gods only have one fate before them.” Mars 発言しました silkily as he brandished the small rod and it suddenly expanded into a spear that was roughly six and a half feet in length with an iron tip.
“H-How?!”
Sebastian could only wonder in awe as he pushed himself from the ground. The practitioners of witchcraft had 発言しました they didn’t know who ストール, 盗んだ the war god’s Authority, and yet they had somehow known exactly which god was involved and that the spear had somehow been stolen. Also, wasn’t the war god conveniently searching for the spear in areas that happened to be in the same region as Kiev?
“Hold on!” Sebastian 発言しました frantically as even the Crusader was looking at Sebastian in disbelief. “I didn’t steal the spear! I had been 与えられた that spear because it locked onto dark magic and would bring me here!”
“Ragnar. Sargon.”
The two undead warriors stepped フォワード, 前進, 楽しみにして and one of them yelled out something in ancient Greek. Suddenly, several hounds rushed into the room through the door and surrounded Sebastian and Spencer, baring their teeth ferociously as they snarled and barked. Sebastian drew his sword and swung it to keep the hounds at bay, but could not bring out his shield due to holding the cage of souls tucked close. He soon found himself back to back with Spencer, who held his left hand up and chanted, creating his bow of holy magic and nocked an ARROW/アロー to the string.
“Of course it locks onto dark magic.” Mars grumbled as his eyes of 火災, 火 glared at Sebastian. “This spear vanquishes all foes of Rome. Witches and sorcerers were always plotting against the state, so it is only natural that I have means to find and crush them.”
“Even so, I didn’t steal it! I was 与えられた that spear によって a subordinate of the クイーン of Witches! I had no idea that it was the spear!”
“SILENCE!”
Mars slammed the butt of his spear against the ground and the entire building shook. The noise excited the hounds further and they continued barked rabidly. The three knights swung their swords out to keep them back.
“Sir Mars, あなた already have your spear, don’t you?” Spencer spoke up for Sebastian, who was truly at a loss. It seemed that he believed the confused knight’s words and was willing to defend him. “In that case, isn’t business done?”
“The deal to give あなた the souls in return for my spear is done. There is no もっと見る need to destroy towns in order to search.” The Roman god agreed indifferently. “However, that says nothing as to whether または not to spare your miserable lives. Roman law does not spare liars and thieves. I shall destroy all enemies of the state—that would include you.”
Spencer clicked his tongue impatiently to that answer from the god.
“Locksley, duck!”
Sebastian did as he was told as the archer mumbled a prayer under his breath quickly. The bow in his hand expanded with blue energy and a grid of magic circles appeared in a サークル, 円 around them with Spencer at the center. Several arrows flew from the magic サークル, 円 towards the dogs, piercing their chests accurately. Sargon and Ragnar deflected the arrows with their weapons and Mars simply swatted the attack away without trouble.
“Resistance only invokes a harsher punishment.” Mars warned as he held up his spear in preparation to strike. A strike from his most powerful Authority would likely wipe out the two in an instant. Did they have a chance?
Mars slammed the spear down and energy surged from it. Both Spencer and Sebastian managed to hop back at the last moment and brace themselves as they went flying into the wall. Spencer recovered from the landing half a 秒 faster than Sebastian, aiming an ARROW/アロー straight up at Mars. It was swatted away once again without a problem as the god took a step forward, preparing to strike them like cornered rats.
“A pagan god such as yourself has no right to pass judgment on the guilty!”
A new voice rang out suddenly and Spencer’s face lit up immediately in relief, like a cornered soldier hearing the sound of reinforcements. Sebastian was confused as he looked toward the direction the voice had come from. In other word; the wall.
The ウォール facing the outside was quickly ripped down as somebody slammed into it, causing a massive explosion of rubble. The two undead warriors were thrown back from the force as the two knights quickly knelt down to brace themselves against it.
Mars cocked a grin as he turned his fiery eyes in the direction of the new arrival. For a war god to make such a face, it was obvious what sort of person had arrived.
“Judging によって your comment, あなた must be a follower of the new age culture with a single god.” Mars 発言しました as he pointed his spear tip at the man standing before him, wearing a full suit of armor and a long cape that billowed in the wind coming in through the hole that took up the entire ウォール for an entrance. “I would never have expected a god-slayer to visit this place directly.”
The man had short golden hair and vivid green eyes the color of emeralds. He carried a thick broad sword in his hand and had a stern gaze that went well with his powerful and erect posture. It was that of a king.
“Even as powerful as Rome is and as stubborn as it was in persecuting the Christians, it converted and housed the first bishop in the end. The fact that once polytheistic empires quickly converted to Judeo-Christianity is a clear sign that the appeal of a benevolent God far out matched the lackluster life of worshipping deaf idols. In other words; あなた pagan gods are mere abominations with egos bigger than the happiness あなた offer.”
“Keep talking. Soon that self-righteous big head of yours is going to be mounted on the end of my spear.”
Mars wasn’t fazed at all によって the devil king knight’s words of criticism. In fact, he seemed amused によって them.
“I am Mars, the protector of Rome and god of war! All cowards tremble before my might! God-slayer, do あなた believe あなた are worthy to stand before after incurring my rage, または will あなた cower in fear after having spoken your ill-natured words to incense me?”
“I will never shame my opponent によって fleeing after striking their pride.” The devil king replied proudly in a firm and loud voice. “I am Grandmaster Charles Saint-Richelieu, leader of the Holy Crusaders and king of the Christendom!”
Having introduced themselves, the two divine monsters shot toward one another and their weapons crashed together. The resulting shockwave shook the entire building, but the two knights were not blown back. With a war god and a god-slaying knight clashing, it wouldn’t be surprising if they were caught up in the fighting. It was clear to Sebastian that the devil king was valiantly preventing the attacks from reaching the knights, protecting them even while fighting a god. Of course, they were unsure as to how long that would last.
“Agh!”
Sebastian reacted instinctively as he noticed a shadow loom over him and a yell rang out as he rolled to the side, evading the mace that fell down on him. He used his sword to deflect the blows as he backed up as Ragnar swung fiercely at him. Normally, Sebastian would use the heavy blows to his advantage and reverse the momentum, but he was far もっと見る concerned for the cage of souls still tucked under his arms, afraid to take any chances that might break the cage. Souls couldn’t naturally exist in the environment without a body または ectoplasm, such as a ghost. Even a single crack would lose the souls forever.
Spencer’s arrows suddenly flew in Sebastian’s direction, striking Ragnar from behind. The burly man groaned angrily as the arrows pierced his limbs and chest and he stumbled. Sebastian took the chance to chop of his head promptly with is sword.
Sebastian looked up to thank Spencer, but saw that the archer was using his agility to evade Sargon’s attacks and was having difficulty getting back far enough to 火災, 火 his ARROW/アロー accurately at Sargon, who remained in close range, proving his combat skill. Sebastian hurried over and swung his sword up at Sargon’s neck. The man turned to deflect the attack, but an ARROW/アロー sprouted from his chest before he could even position himself properly. Without even speaking to each other after giving one another a look of gratitude, they both rushed out the door.
“We’re going to regroup with the Crusaders and finish off the remnants of the Wild Hunt, though I imagine they are nearly finished.” Spencer spoke swiftly as they ran down the hallway, putting distance between them and the major 情報源 of magical power clashing behind them. “If His Majesty defeats Mars, it will be our victory.”
“What do あなた think his chances are now that Mars recovered his Authority?” Sebastian asked with a slight amount of guilt in his voice. Spencer’s eyes flickered toward him momentarily before returning to focus ahead as they continued down the hall.
“Gods and devil kings are of equal strength as a rule, but there is precedence for a god-slayer to be stronger than a god. Frankly, I cannot say for sure, but I have faith in His Majesty. After all, if he loses, it would be our immediately loss unless someone turned out to be able to slay a god. His Majesty will take responsibility until the very end.”
Spencer shook his head back and forth, denying the thought before changing the subject.
“That aside, Sebastian, were あなた serious before?” Spencer spoke with concern in his voice. “The クイーン of Witches…as in the devil king of Eastern ヨーロッパ gave あなた the spear without telling you?”
“Probably.” Sebastian nodded reluctantly. “That’s definitely what it seems like. I promise あなた that I didn’t steal the spear.”
“I believe you. That’s why I’m so concerned. Lady Martel and Grandmaster Saint-Richelieu have been 苦い enemies for the past century. The two of them have never agreed with one another and His Majesty openly despises her lack of morality. Even now, it’s highly probable that lady Martel is the one who set up this fight between Mars and His Majesty. In other words…their fight has already been predetermined.”
