'12 Monkeys' Syfy Season 2 Spoilers: Theme Is Insanity, The Witness' Goals To Be Revealed

"12 Monkeys" season 2 is merely a month away from its premiere date. The series picks up right where season 1 left off with Cassandra (or Cassie) being stuck in the future with Jones and Cole being trapped in the past. Now, fresh spoilers from Entertainment Weekly reveal that insanity is going to play a crucial role in the Syfy series\' sophomore season.

"Insanity, which played a major factor in the film, is something we explore this season," executive producer of "12 Monkeys" Terry Matalas told EW, "the nature of it [insanity] and whether some people you think truly are insane, maybe they\'re not."

Indeed, insanity plays an important role in season 1. Jennifer Goines is not only in a mental hospital, but through most of the freshman season she\'s seen as an insane person. Of course, towards the finale, viewers understand that Goines is a complex character and she may not be as insane as she is made out to be.

"Maybe they\'re [insane people are] connected to the world and nature in a different way, like Jennifer Goines," Matalas explained, "We\'re going to be meeting a lot of interesting, psychologically challenged people this season."

Surprisingly, "12 Monkeys" fans will see more of a sane Jennifer Goines. Goines was obviously not always dubbed as insane.

Moreover, Gamespot reports that a suite in the Emerson Hotel will become the base of operations for Cassie and Cole in 1944. In the season 1 finale, the book shop that served as the headquarters was destroyed due to the paradox.

Additionally, the goals of The Witness will be revealed in season 2. His or her identity will shock fans.

Collider reports that the 12 blue men that were seen in season 1 are named The Messengers.

Other spoilers revealed by the publication include the fact that Cole will trust Jones more this season, Jones\' backstory will be revealed (we know her daughter\'s death prompted her to meddle with time) and a threat bigger than the plague will be present.

"12 Monkeys" season 1, episode 1 premieres on April 18 at 9 p.m. EST on Syfy.
