What can we do now in the future to clean up and prevent oil spills in the ocean?

As many of us know, there was a large oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and BP is to blame. I know that one of the courses of action to try to remove the oil was using a tobe as a vacuum to suck up some oil, but that didnt help much. And now, there burning the oils to get rid of the mess. I honestly find this sick, and idiotic. They couldn't have thought of any other way to remove the oil? 動物 are being burnt and killed because of BP's mistake.
