Papa Roach to Headline ‘Rock for Freedom’ Human Trafficking Benefit
Veteran rockers Papa Roach have been tapped to headline the “Rock for Freedom” benefit slated for July 28 in Los Angeles. The event, which will also feature celebrity bowling, is hosted by the Rockers United Foundation and was organized by esteemed rock photographer Kevin Estrada, who is hoping to not only raise awareness for human trafficking, but fight against it as well.
Taking place at the Lucky Strike Live in Hollywood, the night will kick off with celebrity bowling which will include some rock and metal stars like team captains Rudy Sarzo (Ozzy Osbourne, Whitesnake, Quiet Riot, Dio) and current Ozzy bassist Blasko along with a team of Los Angeles metal all-stars. Silent auctions and raffles will also be held throughout the night, featuring autographed guitars, skateboards, books, set lists, drum cymbals and more from artists like Korn, Rammstein, Papa Roach, DevilDriver, Trivium, Lita Ford, Motley Crue, Atreyu, Slayer, Anti-Flag, and others.
With Papa Roach set for a headlining performance, local acts Edge of Paradise and the Mendenhall Experiment will serve as the opening acts. Tickets are currently on sale at the Lucky Strike Live website and are limited.
Speaking about the impetus for “Rock for Freedom,” Estrada commented, “Human trafficking is the second largest criminal industry in the world today – second only to drug activity. This is tragically happening to hundreds of thousands of girls, and boys, every year – some of these girls are as young as seven years old. This isn’t just happening elsewhere in the world, it’s happening right here in our own backyards.”
Proceeds from the event will help victims of human trafficking by going to housing, medical assistance, legal aid, job placement as well as efforts to help recover victims currently being trafficked. Monitoring stations will be set up on borders between countries where the crime is known to flourish. A PSA featuring Nikki Sixx and Lemmy Kilmister can be viewed below.
