If she didn't love him she wouldn't be so defensive towards Emma for staying in town.
Did you see her face when Henry rejected her? When she saw him talking to that stranger? When he was trapped in the mine? Someone who can't love would not exhibit those kinds of emotions.
I think her problem is that she has covered her heart with layers of hatred and revenge. Perhaps this curse reduction means her layers will get peeled away and by the end, she will end up how she was before she went evil.
Regina/Evil Queen KILLED HER OWN FATHER!
she loved herself more!
you just DON'T KILL the one you love because you just want to have things your way.
She did love him this is odd to say but, just because you love someone doesn't mean you can't kill them. She loved her father a lot and if anything the killing of him proved it (the curse worked because her father is the thing she loved the most.
I don't believe she is in love with herself, she has this obsessive desire for vengeance. She didn't kill her father because she wanted to enhance her beauty, talent, knowlage, ect. She did it because of her strong blood lust. Thus she doesn't love herself the most.
She can totally love Henry even if she killed her father; 1. We are still uncertain as to weather or not Regina remembers everything or just snippets of her other life. And if she only remembers bits and pieces then she may not even remember her father. 2. Gina's love for her father and love for Henry are two different things. Her relationship with her father in her other life does not effect her love for Henry. 3. Gina has done so much for Henry to gain his affection, it's when he doesn't even appreciate the things she tries to do for him that gets her irritated with him. The very reason (outside the curse) that Gina hates Emma is because she fears that Emma will take Henry (the person she loves most) away from her.
Killing someone does not mean you cannot love. Take for instance (oh boy I've been dying to drag Bellatrix into this) Bellatrix killed her own cousin to gain the affection of Voldemort, whom she loves deeply. Being evil or killing someone does not neccacarily lessen ones ability to love.
so, IF SHE LOVES HENRY we can expect any day for her to KILL HIM!
Just because she wants a new curse or whatever.
If she had the heart to KILL THE ONE SHE LOVED MOST I wonder what she'll do to someone who she simply loves, or loves a little bit... make them suffer and then kill them maybe...
Just because she wants a curse does not mean she loves herself more then anything. And even though she killed her father, she still loved him a lot. The curse's working proved that her father was indeed the thing Queenie loved the most.
There is no curse to be made or sacrifice to make. That's somewhat irrelevant. She isn't going to kill Henry because she doesn't feel any motivation to do so. And going back to the previous points; Gina has a very different personality then her other self. Queenie may kill loved ones Gina is less likely to. And if you are going to bring Gramham up; he broke up with her she didn't love him when she killed him because he really hurt her by dumping her for Emma. Gina is more likely to kill for love; she already displayed the 'I can't have him no one can' thing. In that sense her love for Gramham was strong enough to make her kill for it. And in the case of Henry as I said before she'd kill Emma to keep him. Also she doesn't intentionally make the ones she loves suffer. It's one of those things where she tries so hard to bring people close to her but it only pushes them away. She tries really hard to gain Henry's affection but he just doesn't care, her gifts and attempts to show him love only seem to push him away.
@zanhar1 agree to disagree. I can't possibly understand your point.
I can accept Regina would like to love Henry (just because she doesn't really want to be a monster, a.k.a. a person incapable of loving).
But what Regina has is not LOVE. you do not deliberately kill& bring suffering to the ones you love. Her BLACK HEART does not know what love is, CAN'T LOVE.
yet.
I hope that by the end of the series she'll learn. and have her redemption. however she must pay for all the evil she's done.
I still think she can love and tries her hardest to do so.
My question would be how did the curse work then if she didn't kill something she loved. Some People with personality disorders do make people they love suffer (sadistic personality disorder). I also believe it is near impossible for a human to stop loving all together, it's a human emotion one can't just get rid of it.
I hope she gets her happy ending as well, but I bet she's gonna die, all my favorites do. D:
Of course she can love him and kill him, it's not impossible. Think of a depressed person that's contemplating suicide. They may love everyone around them and not want to hurt them, but they decide that their death is ultimately best in the long run and go through with it...I hate to compare the two, but it's the best I've got. Regina reached a point of complete desperation, and in this pit of said emotion, she believed there was no other way to be happy.
As for loving Henry, I fully believe that she does. His rejection hurts her in a way that the rejection of others does not, it's painfully obvious. She may be strict and over-bearing, but I know plenty of mothers with that demeanor that would die for their children (and part of me believes Regina would be willing to as well).
Regina wasn't aware of Henry's fairy-tale theory until Emma came to town. We learn from Archie that she's been trying to bring Henry closer to her for YEARS. She was doing so without a prompt that he knew she was the Queen; she genuinely wanted him to care and to reciprocate her feelings.
She doesn't get any positive feedback from Henry, and if she didn't truly love him, she would have stopped trying to get through to him a long time ago. But no, she fights to pull him closer. She loves him, she just doesn't understand it as well as others and I'm willing to bet that it all goes back to Snow White's betrayal.
Emma: Do you love him?
Regina: What?
Emma: Do you love Henry?
Regina: Of course I love him! *goes inside*
Emma had a frightened and worried look on her face. She can tell whenever anyone is lying so that means Regina doesn't love Henry. Emma wouldn't have stayed if she did. She even said Henry didn't have his best chance and she couldn't leave. Regina is just using Henry to hold Storybrooke together.
ETA: Oh btw I love the Bellatrix statement you put in. That is true.
@Katara maybe, maybe not. All shall be revealed, hopefully.
Just to add to my point Gina offered to go into that mine (in still small voice) to save Henry. She would've risked her life had Emma not butted in.
If she didn't love him she wouldn't be so hurt by his cold attitude toward her.
Emma had him for 10 minutes and Henry loved her instantly.
this says something. there are millions of good, loving adoptive mothers out there! and their adoptive children choose to stand by their side, even when their real parents show up!
I think if Henry felt loved he wouldn't have been so lonely and unhappy. he wouldn't have run to Emma.
@Princess But we don't know what her relationship with Henry was prior to the show. He couldn't possibly have hated her since birth. I have faith in Henry and Gina.
Naturally Henry would love his birth mother instantly, they are biological family, it's only natural. Like-wise it's only natural to hate a step-mom or an adoptive mom, since they are not blood related.
Not necessarily, it really depends on the child, every kid reacts to situations differently.
She's the mayor, it's hard to be a single mom, hold up an important job, and juggle a child all at once. He didn't particularly have to be lonely either, there were many other kids in Mary's class he could've talked to. As you say about Gina, he chose to not have friends.
I hope you don't get the wrong idea,Henry is one of my favorite charters and I'm not trying to make him the bad guy.
If Regina would love Henry, Henry would love her back. He wouldn't be so miserable and lonely.

This is a bit off topic though I don't think we're here to discuss Henry.
poor henry was so happy to talk with hansel and gretel behind her back...
Oh wow two pages lol.
well, Emma noticed how lonely Henry is. And Mary said it too. I've seen how hysterical Regina got when she saw him talking to those children. Plus Henry seemed so happy and amazed that he can talk to somebody his age!
I never saw any children in Regina's house.
I think he's not allowed to socialize with other children. if he were...and it was somehow his choice not to... then I DON'T THINK HE WOULD HAVE BEEN SO HAPPY AND EXCITED to talk with hansel&gretel!
I think he was happy to talk to hansel and gretel because they are orphans like him. They understood him.
Gina didn't 'expect' Henry to save her in reality AND the 'nightmare.' He is really trying to redeem her! :-) <3 she loves him so much that she'll do anything for him just like Emma! She's actually going to 'try' and 'save' her former enemies 'for Henry!' :-) <3
Primcessyvonne- lol what did you think after season 3 where it proves she loves Henry!
