i really don't get y the hoax would be so direct is just so confusing for the writers to jump straight into the situation like this so quickly.

Hmm. I'm pretty skeptical about this so-called spoiler. I think if something this big were outed, the usual spoiler people (Ausiello, for example) would be talking about it. And they haven't thus far.
