Can あなた be エモ without looking emo?

There is no possible way I can ever look エモ without my whole fuking life exploding all at once. I'm trying to look エモ a little bit at a time, but the hair is a no go. :( my parents are always criticizing エモ people and they don't know about my interests. Is it lame that I act エモ and call that being emo?
