I think Disney has to show that good people die too, not just bad guys. It's sad but true :(

I would love that. I think Tangled would have been so much more lovely and heartbreaking if Flynn died, even though I know I couldn't stand it.
But Disney would NEVER. They are a childrens company. If Ariel had jumped into the sea and became sea foam like in the fairy tale, I probably would've died and cried for weeks as a child.

@laurenhaa A lot of good people have died in Disney movies. I'm a sucker for happy endings - if I want to be depressed, I don't watch Disney.

Yes, so many disney movies could be turned into heart wrenching dramatic masterpieces instead of lovely movies. not that they aren't masterpieces cuz i LOVE them with all my heart, but they could take a whole new turn. I agree with hisblueeyes, tangled would have made me cry sooooooo much if Flynn had died. I would have cried and cried, but he lived. I was happy he lived, but for a little while. Then I just went on with life. If Ariel had died, I would have broken down and be inconsolable for weeks, but the ending as of now just makes me smile for a while. Not saying the endings are bad, but they could be so much more emotional and heartwrenching, like the ending of Pochontas

I love a good tear-jerker. And I actually find Disney movies a lot more heart-wrenching than most other movies, I think that's why I love them.

I didn't like the sad ending in Pocahontas and I can bet I wouldn't like it much if a prince or princess actually died either :p I love me some happy endings. I watch Disney when I'm sad, it puts me in a better mood. If the prince or princess died it just wouldn't be the same...

It would be sad and break my heart, but it would be a change from how they normally do it. That's why the ending of Pocahontas is one of my favorites; because it's so different from the other typical "happily ever afters".

I agree, it would be very strange to have someone in the lineup that we know to be dead, but maybe it would be better to have an 'ambiguous' death. Of course, I wouldn't have minded if Flynn stayed dead in Tangled, and Rapunzel went on to rule her kingdom, learning from her adventure. I think it would be nice.

after reading those comments i'm not really sure! It would be sooo strange for a little kid to buy Disney princess stickers or something with one character know that is dead!

I despise sad movies. Real life has enough sadness in it. I watch movies to escape and cheer up.....not get more depressed.

The thing is that overly tragic tear jerker endings and character deaths can be just as contrived and forced as cheesy happily ever after's. Ray from PaTF is a great example of an entirely unnecessary death that contributed NOTHING to the story. Had Flynn died in Tangled it would have altered the entire point of the movie about second chances and ability to start all over ater being inspired to turn your life around. If Ariel had died in TLM is would have been yet another patronizing tale/story about young women having to be punished for their passion and recklessness (and no, I'm not having a go at the original fairy tale the movie was based on since it had a completely different storyline). Disney is supposed to leave hope in the end, to expose the viewer to different angles and make you feel invincible after watching a movie rather than making you depressed. There are enough movies and media that does the latter sticking to the concept of "the more deaths - the better, it makes us sooooo edgy!". Deaths in Disney movies only work when they help move the story or set it's events in motion like Mufasa's death for example.
