I doubt it. I think Belle is a very grounded and stable personality who does love reading and adventures like Ariel but Ariel is much more flighty and spontaneous than Belle. I think they could get along but I don't think they'd ever prefer each other's company or make an attempt to be "friends" as opposed to well-known acquaintances.

what lililic said. like with Mulan, Belle wouldn't be close to her. they'd love each other's stories and admire things about each other but have very different interests. Belle would prefer a calmer friend she can have deep discussions with and Ariel would prefer someone more exciting she can get in trouble with.
