Not all of them are unrealistic (Snow White, Cinderella, Pocahontas, Mulan, Rapunzel, and Merida) and anyway it's just a cartoon. OK, I hate when people say that to defend cartoons (like violent ones) but it's true here. you aren't supposed to focus on how thin they are- they're cartoons. they're supposed to be a bit exaggerated. if anything it's Jessica Rabbit and female superheroes people should have a problem with, yet they're the ones everyone loves. In fact people say Jessica is what a "real" woman looks like (at which I have to snorfle in laughter...)
I think Mulan and Snow White are especially good for body image because they're not curvy (though I don't see where people see a boyish body on Snow White... not having enormous boobs doesn't make you boyish, that's insulting). They show it's OK if you aren't super curvy or big chested.
Anyway, it's not just Disney that portrays thin figures as beautiful. It's a mirror to society, pretending otherwise would be the actual unrealistic thing to do.
I only think Aurora, Ariel and Jasmine are unrealistic. I agree with AudreyFreak. Jessica Rabbit not only is extremely curvy, her waist is smaller than her neck.
No, they are animated and they are not that unrealistically thin (except Ariel and Jasmine perhaps).
The others have actually Realistic bodies, esp. Aurora, Belle, Snow White, Tiana, Cindy and Mulan.
The problem comes when media (real people) spreads around the stereotype '' be extremely thin'' showing models and actresses.
Disney has thin/ average princesses but doesn't follow that.
Come on, they're animated! For a start they have bigger head and eyes which makes them look thinner and I have never compared them into real life. I definitely agree with PociandSmith.
Above all, Jessica Rabbits breast swings upwards when she walks...no real breast does this. Honestly, children are bombarded with perfectly shaped models, actresses, singer....why worrying about comic figures?
Where's the "Maybe" or "Sometimes" option?? Most girls, or people in general, are not going to look at the Princess and think, "I wish I was that small//thin." Of course, there are going to be a couple that think that, but I think most of their problems come from their real life, and not the Princess, the Princess may just add to the feeling of having to be thin.

maybe a tiny tiny bit...but that's not what gives girls low self-esteem. It's the bullies, the parents' expectations, childhood trauma, etc. If little girls feel ugly compared to the princesses they're probably not even aware of it at that age.
No. I think people who look upon animated characters as role models are ridiculous! Come on, animated characters are made to be enjoyed and looked at, not to be a standard for self. Besides, it's okay in animation to exaggerate something. If you notice, hardly anyone has eyes as big as Belle or bangs like Ariel.
It's a cartoon! Anatomy features are exaggerated! Besides I want all the princess to be healthy, kids self esteem is learned by how their raised not by disney
