For me, "Kiss the Girl" is appropriate on a whole bunch of levels. It's complicated. I have a complicated relationship with The Little Mermaid going back many years, even though I had only watched it myself this year.
My wife had watched TLM almost every day for years, and formed a lot of ideas about her expectations for romance from it. It really messed up a lot of things in our relationship, and ironically so. She had told me for a while before I watched TLM that guys should all watch TLM so they could understand what girls expect. I formed a lot of preconceptions about TLM based on her expectations, and when I finally watched TLM I was shocked that those preconceptions were so wrong! Somehow my wife had watched TLM every day for years and not seen how messy and complicated and difficult Eric and Ariel's relationship was. She thought of Eric as some sort of perfect dashing prince who swept Ariel off her feet in a perfect romance, like Phillip and Briar Rose. But this isn't TLM at all! I wrote a rambling essay about TLM and how I empathized with its romance...and my wife thought I was crazy. We had a lot of messed up relations, and she said, "Seriously? You think our romance was like a Disney fairy tale romance?"
Aaaaaggggghhhhhhh! How could she watch TLM every day and not understand the movie inside and out? She built up in her heart this idealized version of Prince Eric and his romance with Ariel, completely ignoring what was actually shown in this movie which she would have as "required viewing" for guys.
Well, "Kiss the Girl" seems to epitomize the way TLM is severely misunderstood. Girls seem to perceive it as this romantic song and romantic scene, but the scene is actually really messed up. Like I said, it's complicated. I really know it, more than you know. But even so, I'm actually grateful for it. I'll cherish every painful minute, for however long it lasts.
And Mulan's song could be A girl worth fighting for. The fact that is funny doesn't matter. Even though Shang doesn't sing, all I'm saying is, it could be considered their song.
but why do you have an option for mulan/shang? does that mean "no song"?
