Insulting the white princesses/people

Digoenes Most fans who ask for more POC don't bash the white characters. If people sound exasperated when asking for more POC then it's probably because they have to deal with individuals who downplay the significance of representation.

AudreyFreak ^I disagree, I see them usually doing both things. just check out random tumblr posts (especially WDC), or liberal news articles. People need to remember Disney isn't going to OVERrepresent minorities. otherwise, they wouldn't be minorities. their country has less racial minorities to represent to begin with. but these people who are obsessed with 'poc' princesses are nearly always the same ones who hate on the white girls. "Great, more white princesses -_-"- said one person on a Pocket Princesses comic featuring Elsa and Anna. though I agree, one Hispanic princess would be nice, though Disney has their hands full and will likely get to one when they can. in the mean time, we do have The Book of Life's Maria, who is not royal but the rich daughter of the town's general, which is very similar to how Poca and Mulan are ;)

Digoenes I do check out tumblr posts (and WDC) and read a variety of liberal media, and the majority don't bash the white characters, they bemoan the fact that there are more white protagonists. Criticism does not equal hate. Also, people aren't worried that Disney will overrepresent minorities (is that even possible?) considering their track record (over 50 movies, only about 8 feature poc protagonists). I'm also not sure what you mean by "their country has less racial minorities to represent to begin with," whose countries? Are we talking about the Disney movies, the ones set in fictional lands with magic and talking animals? Also, while the Book of Life is a step in the right direction (Mexican made and about Mexican culture) it was made by an independent studio that took them 15 years to make because distributors thought that a movie featuring Mexicans wasn't universal enough. It would be incredibly meaningful for a massive company such as Disney to have more diversity in their films because would be influencing a whole new generation of kids. Right now they have Big Hero 6 and Moana coming up, but 2 movies aren't enough, they have to keep on having diversity in their films instead of throwing out a bone ever couple of years.
