This Band Says Demi Lovato Lifted Their Beats Without Permission
Does \'Stars\' sound like \'Infinity Guitars\' to you?
UPDATE (11/3/15): Demi Lovato’s producers Carl Falk and Rami Yacoub have responded to the accusation that her song “Stars” used samples of Sleigh Bells’ music, telling
, “We did not use any samples in Demi Lovato’s song ’Stars.’ Demi was also not involved with the production. She only wrote top line.”
However, a rep for Sleighbells is sticking to their theory that the song stems from their own two numbers, “Infinity Guitars” and “Rhythm Riot,” telling the mag, “I can confirm that the band feels their music has been sampled without proper clearance and are seeking all available remedies with Island Records.”
The band also responded to the slew of Lovatic feedback it received after issuing its accusatory tweet on Tuesday (Nov. 3), writing “Hot damn Demi fans you guys are f—-n live I respect that.”
Brooklyn noise pop duo Sleigh Bells publicly accused the singer of lifting one of their song’s beats on Twitter Monday (Nov. 2) for her own song, “Stars.”
In a tweet sent directly to Demi, the band wrote, “Demi Lovato flattered you guys sampled Infinity Guitars & Riot Rhythm for ’Stars’ but we were not contacted. Gotta clear those.”

Afterward, a Twitter feud erupted between loyal Lovatics and those who think Sleigh Bells kinda have a point and were justified in calling her out for the similar-sounding beats.
Some people agreed with the band — comprised of vocalist Alexis Krauss and guitarist Derek Edward Miller — and their accusation, writing that “it’s the identical rhythm, they just layered some other sounds on top,” while others couldn’t pick up on the suggested similarities and/or thought the Twitter platform wasn’t the place hash things out with her.
For reference, here’s Sleigh Bells’ “Infinity Guitars.”
And the band’s other song involved here, “Riot Rhythm.”
Meanwhile, here’s the audio track for Demi’s “Stars.”
What do you think? Are the songs similar enough to state Sleigh Bells’ case or nah?
Clumsy, wavy-haired, and full of good intentions. Yep, that about sums it up.
