Critical Analysis of Twilight Article: A proposed amendment :)

People making claims about Twilight is really beginning to grate on my nerves D; Not statments of opinion; the kind of claims I'm talking about don't begin with "I think". They are claims, stated as fact.

An example of a statement of opinion might be "I think Twilight is awful". An example of a claim might be "Twilight is awful". Or, conversely "I think Twilight is perfect/Twilight is perfect".

The problem with these kinds of claims is that they are completely subjective. あなた can't make an objective claim like "Twilight is awful/perfect" based on opinion, it doesn't make sense :(

So the amendment I propose is simple: begin statements of opinion with "I think", または whatever variation on this is appropriate (if any). Is that fair enough? :) I know many of あなた already do this, but just as a reminder to the few who don't.

November99 This is a good idea (dropped the "I think" just to annoy you). But really, I do think this is a good idea. The problem will be in making people do it.

cassie-1-2-3 I've never been bothered by people who don't say "I think" or "In my opinion" on picks, because I always figured it was implied. We are commenting on opinion polls, afterall, but it is different here. The problem arises when people somehow believe that simple statements like "Twilight is aweful, pick up a real book" or "If you read Twilight again, you'll love it" are actually going to have some sort of effect on other people. It seems like they think they're actually presenting a solid argument. Just think to yourself "Would the opposing version of my statement even have a chance of changing my way of thinking in the slightest?" If the answer is "not even remotely", soften your words up to a declaration of an opinion, because your argument's no good.

KateKicksAss I somewhat agree with Cassie, but it really does bug me when people say things like "Twilight isn't literature" or "Twilight is perfect" and then act like they're FACTS.
